to answer this question....I have been running hard doors with the OEM soft door hinges for 14+- years...mostly winters and rainny season...but...never had any issues...I usually would use the hard doors over the oem soft for wheeling as well.

BTW...great idea on your hinge creation :)

Impressive... Shows how overbuilt 40s are.:D

Thank you. I expect these only to get better the more I build.

How do the hinge halves attach to the Cruiser body / a-pillar? My factory ones are welded on. Do the factory hinges have to be cut off and these new ones bolted on somehow?

they should not be welded on...you might be looking at the seal around the outside...kinda a hard plastic/rubber...look inside the truck cab inside the pillar...you'll see where the bolt on

Ok. I just glanced at the outside last night and saw what appeared to be welds. I will take a closer look.

Count me as someone who is interested in these also...

Hey all, I just received a set of the hinges and they look great. You can tell Matthew has put a lot of time and effort into the design and manufacture of the hinges. His instructions are thorough and easy to understand. I wouldn't hesitate to do business with him again.

I started building half doors for the '79 shown early in the thread today and realized I need to allow for a bit more adjustment on the door halves of my hinges. From now on the bolt holes in the door halves will be lazer cut as ovals instead of simple circles. I'm sure no 40 tub is perfectly straight; I know mine isn't. The added adjustment will allow for dimensional inconsistencies for better door alignment. The laser cutter I use is very good about making these changes for me as necessary.

I sent Mark Hawley of Metal Tech a set of sample hinges and the raffle set for Moab. He will have them to put out for the raffle.

Just for a quick update: My website is nearly ready to be published, but is waiting on getting banking transaction details to be in place. I was told I should be able to publish my website fully functioning by the end of this week or early next week. I appreciate your patience as I learn to do this part correctly.

I would much rather be building hinges or bumpers or working on my 40.

Intuit Websites

So I tried publishing a website at: mcdesignsoffroad.com, but it didn't show up yet. It's supposed to have the direct purchasing ability not using paypal. Please bear with me as I struggle to figure this out. An intuit person convinced me it would be better than Paypal and cost less. Was I duped?

when i click on products i get some pop up that you cannot x out of to see the full page

Same problem viewing the products page here - no need to panic, the site just needs a little adjustment. Speaking of which...

On your top menu, I'd suggest arranging the items as follows:

HOME | PRODUCTS | TESTIMONIALS | FAQ (you don't have one yet) | ABOUT US | CONTACT US

I think that having a non-paypal payment option such as straight credit card merchant account is a good idea - that's how I'd purchase my set, but by NOT having a paypal option you're gonna lose customers. Paypal fees suck, but it's the biggest and best game in town.

If the intuit system continues to suck, shoot me a PM and I'll give you some advice on a different way of doing things.

The map thing didn't work like I told it too. I'm waiting on tech support to open for calls.

I like your idea of menu arrangement. Thank you for the suggestion. I'll definitely consider your other comments as well. I won't ignore great advice. I'll keep the paypal option.

how does one actually purchase these hinges??

These are available. I do have a few sets and could take orders.

Thank you all again for your continued interest.

I'm making progress, Intuit is working to figure out a glitch with my online store/e-commerce ability. They said it should be up tomorrow. I intend to have both a regular shopping cart and paypal, for those who have asked about where you can buy these. I will also be willing to supply them to your favorite Land Cruiser shop to install for you.

Couple more questions: Do you have a close-up pic showing the body / A-pillar pieces installed? Are there gaps or holes in the A-pillar when your product is installed? (Your pieces look smaller than factory.)

I am very intrigued by your product.

Quik Hinge A-Pillar half comparison

I'll have to grab some photos tomorrow of them on a truck. The actual A-pillar half of the hinge has the same profile as the factory piece where it protrudes through the narrow hole. I used as many factory hinges as I could to average dimensions for the Quik Hinges.

The material of the new hinge is thicker too. I use 1/4" flat steel and the original stamped steel is more like 3/16" thick. Also, my original 1969 hinges never had the rubber seal that often is mistaken for a weld. Once the hinges are painted I suggest using a bead of paint compatible sealant if you find that necessary.

The larger diameter hole is for replaceable sintered bronze bushings.

Hinges are very nice.

I'd give Intuit a couple of days to make all their promises come through, but you'd probably be happier working with a local Web designer.
