Wait, they ALL use electrical push buttons to go into 4x4 mode, that's interesting info. I thought there was a Tcase that needed a lever to go into 4x4 mode, maybe that was in a 40? I think that lever was controlling vacuum instead of a VSV+push button, not sure though.

Take VC out a turn it into a paperweight. Or, if your bud would prefer, I could sell him mine. It was removed when the marlin gears went in
The drivetrain is a little clunkier without it, but aside from that, you don't feel any differences and the case now holds a little more oil than it did before.
I can tell that pic was from my gasser 80 series ..
I post a pic of one that it's full manual .. we had few of those ..
But the 93 and 94 had viscous couplers and yet they're different part numbers; in fact, there's a total of four part numbers for transfer cases (including 91-92) for the US 80, all of which had full time 4wd.
I have a late 94 frame/engine/transmission/exhaust under a 97 body. Originally with 94 hf2av, but it got ripped out and replaced with a 97 hf2av that I part-timed.
The only difference I could find was an extra boss on the passenger side to mount a vibration damper. This boss had slight interference with my 94 over-frame exhaust, but I just cut it off with a sawzall and have had no issues since.

Otherwise, as far as I can tell, 94 vs 97 is identical.
Further evidence that Costa Rica is home to more Cruisernomalies than even Venzuelan or UN spec (the latter claimed HZJ80s equipped with manual HF1As and 'factory installed' turbos, although evidence is obscured in languages Google can't translate)
Begs the question, although off topic, but did your 80 have Dana axles?

I test fit a 2005 100 series case on to my 96 trams it fit just shorter. Didn't want to make a new rear shaft so I left it stock for now.
Is there not an easy way to convert an electronic CDL to mechanical?
Whatever shaft the CDL motor moves in and out can probably be connected to a linkage then a shifter.

Yep my hzj80 has a manually actuated hf1a, you will probably find that most if not all poverty pack 80s like mine are the same.
Wouldn't have it any other way, you can keep your electronic junk.
I'd say you could adapt it but I've never taken a close look at a transfer with an electronic cdl.

Are the majority mechanical?
I hunted H15XF/HF1A mechanical (direct) in Australia, finding prevalence in the FZJ75s (at parters).
Are bench seats more common in PP HZJ80s?
Plenty of Aussie 80's came out with a manual transfer case.

As far as I'm aware there are 3 main trim levels for the 80 over here.
DX (pov pack), 1hz only, h150f, part time transfer, manual locking hubs, 6 seats (front bench seat, drivers bucket seat, no centre console), vinyl interior, barn doors, no flares, quad headlights.
GXL, 1hz 1fz and 1hd, gearbox is dependent on motor, full time transfer, full time hubs, 8 seats (front buckets, split middle and 3rd row), carpet interior, swing down tailgate, etc
Sahara, bling and other junk.
There are other minor differences also.
My ex gasser no .. it came factory with rear SF drums .. later I swap it for a more normal FF and disc rear end ..
And yes CR have quite nice examples .. but I gotta tell .. I never been in the middle east or NZ or AU, but America ( Continent .. not just US ) or Europe I ever seen more Cruisers than Colombia or Venezuela ..
I know this is an old thread… but I can’t seem to find the info I’m looking for. Basically, I’m looking at these “part time 4wd kits” from various dealers and they don’t really seem to do what I want. They put hubs in front, and then a spool in the center diff and call it “part time”… but even though your not putting power to the front wheels, you are still spinning all the front drive train( drive shafts, differential, axel shafts, birfields, etc.).
My question is: Can you swap a t-case from a 91’ into a 94’ or 96’ and have true 2wd-4wd shifting, then add front hubs and have your front drive train truly isolated?

The t-case PT kits don't leave the front shaft spinning when in 2wd.
You're mistaken my good sir, the front DS does NOT spin at all. In fact, I can lie under the 80 and spin the driveshaft like a mofo with my hand.

With a proper kit (and properly installed). The front driveshaft, diff, axles and birfs are NOT turning ie powered when the CDL is un-locked (2WD) and the front hubs are un-locked... just like any other Land Cruiser part-time setup. This works for all 1990-2007 HF2A/HF2AV t-case found in the US spec FJ80/FZJ80/LX450/UZJ100/LX470
