I like this look. Can anyone (maybe even the owner) tell me what setup he's got? Lift/tire size? Thanks!

put me down for a 4" lift and 33/9.50 or 10.50 BFG muds.

although the more I look at it, the more I think those are 31/10.50x15s. And if that's the case that could be a 3" lift.

It could be anything, from as simple as a 3" BL(yuck) to something as complicated as a HD OME to 4" lift.

HIlux, not gonna be body lift. Look at the bottom of the frame to rocker distance. Looks like a 2-3 inch lift and 31's

That's what I'd say... I think that's an ARB front bumper as well....

33/10.50's on 15x6 or 15x7 steelies

4 inch lift - It sits a little hich in the back - maybe beacuse of the soft top.

ARB bumper. Maybe TJM but I think I can see the ARB sticker

Enough lights to light up a small town

Mention of the soft top reminded me where I found that photo- Can-Back soft tops website. So, I guess I'm not likely to stumble across the actual setup on here.

I picked up this 4Runner the other night. I'm stoked. It's an '85 SR5. The lift and tires are too much, though. With stock gearing it's pretty gutless, and 12 1/2s are a little wide for my taste. One the leaf packs has two broken springs, so I need to replace at least one set of springs, and while I'm at it I thought I would drop the lift a little (maybe install different springs all around) and/or ditch the big shackles. Then I can put 31s or 32s on it, or maybe even 33x10 1/2s. Anybody recognize these springs?

Any recommendations along the line of what I'm looking for?

Thanks.

Nice truck! It looks like it's in great shape for being 23 years old. Any pic of the interior?

First, I would keep the lift, but of course replace those broken springs. I would also keep the 33" tires, but I would install them on 8" wide steel rims. Those look like 10" and they will make the tires bulge out. Make sure the backspacing is 3.5", not less as it will make the tires stick out more (3.75" will also work, but are tight on the rod ends). Probably explains the fender flares. I would loose those.

The rear shackle isn't that long, just about right. The springs look like the same markings as a set of Rancho springs I had.

That drag link doesn't look right. Somebody has done something to it and I would inspect it. Is it a drop link?

You have a missing/broken bolt holding on the left-front spring pin, red circle. Better fix that.

A little more looking and I believe it's a Superlift. The number painted on the front spring matches their 4.5" kit. Interestingly, the number on the rear leaf matches their 7" lift kit. Is the rear sag enough to make 2.5" difference?

The drag link is modified, I believe it's also something from Superlift. Can't find an actual photo on their site.

Thanks for pointing out the missing bolt. I noticed that earlier and was happy to see that it is just missing, and not broken off inside. I'll replace it soon.

Hopefully there are others out there like you who like the lift- maybe someone will buy it from me, minus one broken spring pack.

If I put a different, slightly smaller lift on it, what will I run into with the drag link? I'll go snap a photo of it real quick and post so you can see.

The interior is in fair to good shape. The stuff I care about is fine, like no springs poking out of the seats, headliner is fine, no huge holes cut into the dash or anything. It did come with two 12" subs and an amp that I'm currently trying to unload- I'm not much of a sub guy.

The only and best way to go is cross-over steering. You need at least 3" lift to run it, but it's by far the strongest and safest way to go. I don't care for drop drag links. I know the theory is they are supposed to help with the steering geometry, but the reality is you have one end on the steering box and the other end on the banana arm, and one is higher than the other. I don't care how many loops they put in the the draglink, those three things in the geometry don't change. I suspect right now you have some serious bump steer. The only thing it helps with are the angle on the two ends.

You can run 32" tires easy with 3" lift. I did it for years. I ran 33" too, but they will rub the rear part of the fender by the mud flap unless you move the axle forward a bit.

what ever you do. Do not buy Downey offroad they suck I bought some from them and the second trip they were ruined get you some Trailgears 3'' along with the hi steer kit its the only way to do it.

If you keep that steering...If you drive that before you change the steering, grease everything that has a zerk fitting. It looks bare to me.
Pull the drop drag off and disassemble it, clean it, grease up good upon reassembly. Makes for tighter steering:D

Questions about lift swap

I ordered OME springs all around today. The OME springs are 2" lift from what I understand. All I ordered was the 4 springs and bushing kits.

Questions for those experienced in these matters:

1. What will I have to do with my steering? I'd like to get rid of this drop drag link. With the more moderate lift, do you think I'll be able to replace the drop with a factory drag link? If so, I need to get one ordered from Cruiser Dan right away. I like the idea of crossover, but Pappy says I'd need at least 3" for it to clear.

2. What about the shackles? The previously-installed shackles (put on with the Superlift, I imagine) look pretty beefy to me, and I'm thinking I'll end up with a little more lift over the EMU springs because of them. Comments?

3. Will I need newer, shorter shocks? I've included a couple photos of the Ranchos that are on the truck currently. As stated above, I didn't order new ones yet.

4. Does this look right? Jagged hole in the frame makes me curious.

Thanks in advance for spoon-feeding me. Being a '40 owner for awhile, I haven't lurked on this side of the forum for long enough to familiarize myself with this generation of trucks. I love the truck so far, and I'm anxious to get these few things in order so I can lose the ghetto lean.

I have OME heavy springs up front and medium rear. I bought the entire kit, spring, shocks (heavy all around), shackles, pins, etc. Although it's advertised at 2 1/2" lift, mine was 3"+ and I don't think I would have any trouble converting to crossover steering if I wanted to.

I also HAD to use a drop draglink. The factory draglink would not work as it bumped the back U-bolt, even though I was using the "special" flattened OME U-bolts. You may have different results.

Pro-comp makes a drop draglink for 3" +/- lifts in case you want/need to buy a new one.

If I were you, I would put the rest of the OME kit on: shackles, greasable pins, and shocks, especially the shocks. The OME springs work very good with the OME shocks. I would then get a OEM draglink from a junkyard or ebay (I see them on there every now and then) and see if it works. I would not invest in a new one until I knew that the geometry was going to work. You can always use your existing drop draglink until you find one.

Btw, you will need at least the OME flattened U-bolts to have any chance of the OEM draglink working!

Good luck!

Edit: Just relooked at the photos above. I think the upper shock mounting is factory. Here's a photo of mine. Unfortunately the top is just out of the photo but it looks the same as yours.
