I have looked into this in person over seas and the Prado carrier door is significantly different from the stock GX. However I believe you could swap the whole door

Well look at what the cat dragged in!

Spotted in San Diego. Really clean design, looks like he also trimmed the entire back bumper.

That is exactly what I have been bugging WGW to make. It's a perfect compliment to the incognito winch mount.

Any idea who's truck that is?

Like I said there are a lot more gxes or there than on here. I have seen so many!

I have money waiting for a well-sorted design along these lines......

Looks like it's a swing out mounted to the frame through the rear corner of the bumper, not the back door.

Maybe it's secured to the door for ease of opening, not to support the tire?

Chase that dude down for sure and see what he did haha

Ok it's a little extreme for most, but it channels my inner Mad Max tendencies!

On a serious note, I know a rear bumper is the way I will go when it's time. Wish they all didn't cost around 2k though haha

Would be awesome if someone would make a "weld your own kit" at a discounted price...

Need more info on this rig... Those flares...

Should we pass the can? This could be big, that part can't be tough to get through factory or secondhand channels with a part number once we confirm fit.

Most aussies complain of cracks/problems with the door mount, especially with larger offroad tires. The superstructure of the door isnt sufficient.

Just following up on this - so did anyone ever buy and install a Prado door? Based on this discussion and the available rear bumpers now I assume nobody is still going for rear tire mounted on the door? Seems like with the added benefits of a bumper that's the better option anyway.

Also, this thread discussed putting Prado tail lights on the GX - anyone actual do that?

Thanks for this thorough discussion of possibilities..My avatar is of a Prado built for wheel carry (Aus.). But noting that wheel not attached so adds credence to door problems. Also door latch not located same. Reminds that my old Isuzu Rodeo had the swing out carrier which worked great!
I favor Scatadams picture of low profile design and lower wt.

ACC garage has a kit for rear door mount... search for "ACC garage becky"

i'm not necessarily recommending it or disparaging it... just saying that it's an option. i have zero experience with it.
