I talked to the KOA earlier today to give them a heads up. They open in the morning and will return calls left on their machine.

I'm seeing 2 available tent sites for the KOA. If you have whatever discount they automatically apply, applied, it will show 0 available sites.
I figured that out right after I posted. Removed that promo they auto added and it showed 8 or 10 tent sites available 🤷🏻‍♂️
I was able to get one.

I got one the last remaining tent sites and I dont mind sharing. Just me and my RTT.
Thank you sir. I was able to scrounge one up. I’m sure there will be others looking to crash though.

*Note to anyone who ends up hunting a spot at the campground: Feel free to crash on mine.

Who would be interested in run up Blanca Peak in Alamosa and camping at the summit before SAS? It's incredible beautiful remote camping and a great trail. Drive the trail Saturday, camp that evening, head back down Sunday morning and then take Engineer pass over the mountain into Ouray. Thinking 4-5 rigs max. Think Black Bear pass dropoffs but with a few tougher obstacles. Rock slides can be common in the area. Not anything super hard but can't have someone lose their cool as there are few turnarounds, so not a good ride for new drivers

A friend and I climbed Blanca Peak and Ellingwood Point way back in the '90s. We drove my stock '84 FJ40 to just before the big stair steps near Lake Como and camped there. Beautiful area and a nice hike. Quite a few years later my oldest son and a friend of his climbed Blanca Peak, they hiked up from the base in the San Luis Valley to the summit and back in one very long day. I don't have that kind of energy any longer.

BTW, I'd like to see an SAS appearance by the '84 FJ60 this year @mcguirejohnson :-). I know you can do it.

That was where I stopped as well. I would like to make the drive all the way to Lake Blanca at the top and camp there next time, but camping at Lake Como would be great as well.
I think it took me about 4 hours to make it to Lake como when I did it in August, there are a few spots now where a stock Cruiser would have a really tough time without someone experienced behind the wheel, unless the bypasses are taken which get dangerously close to the edges.

I bet it has gotten a lot worse over the years. It was pretty rough back then, but I had a lot of experience behind the wheel by that time - about 11 years in the FJ60 all over Nevada and the Four Corners.

First timers here as well! My cousin, @Evanmj, and I will be making the trek from Central Texas in our 80s. Looking forward to it gentlemen!

2 hours. Whoa. The secret is out! Glad to see all these 1st timers join the ranks. Y'all are gonna have a ball.

We made it in. Looking forward to getting tippy on Poughkeepsie.
