I have an SOR bikini top that I have used many summers and it is still holding up fine. Would buy another one if this one ever wore out.

I rocked a homemade version of the family style for a year, it was pretty nice.
I've had an SOR Standard Summer top for over 15 years that came on one of my 40's and it just gave up this past summer. Replaced it with the same from SOR. Very pleased with the quality.
The summer tops are great, the only problem is they “waft up” pretty bad at higher speeds. They have to be incredibly tight to resist it. I assume that is why they made the vented ones (saw a double vented one this weekend in CO). Now it rides smooth.. but doesn’t hold out rain well. A trade off, depends on where you live and how/when you drive which you choose I suppose.

I picked up a bikini top from Pakistan years ago that the fit the FST door headers. What I like about it secures the sides behind the windshield from flapping in higher speeds. Someone made family top that used factory bows would be very interested.
I spoke w/ SOR and they mentioned that the summer tops will be tighter when paired with their roll bar padding kits as well. Which I do like the look of - I just wish they had a tan summertop..

Ian are you still a small vendor for TROA? Picked up a FST FJ40 a few months back and the previous owner swapped the bows and top for a hard top, trying to decide if I want to refurb the hard top or just jump back to a soft top. Preference is going back to a soft top

I have a small tear in my TROA top from pushing it in and out of the garage. I noticed that I have a small nail loose above the frame of the garage door.
How easy is this to repair and noticeable will it be? I’m considering taking it somewhere to get it professionally done.

Cut 2 nice round patch of matching canvas about 1" larger than damage. Lightly glue with flexible adhesive the patch in place on both the inside and outside - secure with tape - next day remove tape - sew the perimeter about 1/4" in threw all 3 layers - Use the double needle saddle stitch and really good thread -Tandy artificial sinew or about 4 to 8 strands of un waxed dental floss . Seal the stitching inside and out - sewing thread lock or seam sealer. Water base stuff isn't very good - make your own solvent base stuff.

Let me see if I can get them to send me some material scraps. Charlie's idea is probably how I'd approach it but I'd just want to do some tests with different adhesives.
An option to get you by and prevent further tearing is "Kenyan Repair Tape". It comes in many colors and is used for field repairs of tents and such. I actually may have some, in khaki, I can send you. Let me check and I'll hit you up tomorrow.
