Slee Front Bumper

I will take some measurements to show the difference between the ARB and ours. But I think we are 4" closer to the body.

Would be very interesting to see a comparison (photos?) since the ARB "sticks out" too much for my taste (liked the design of the TJM...).

doubt it on the turn signals.. You can do it afterwords if you want though. I just had two Hella foglights mounted to my slee rear bumper today.

The front bumper will most likely have an option for a light bar over where the winch is to mount foglights. The next day they spend on R&D for the bumper will most likely involve the light bar.

Loud - are you funding the R&D? Or are you on Slee's payroll now - trying to earn your investments back? Either way - good work.

What do you mean by doing turn signals afterwords? The factory ones would be removed with the slee and by law you have to have turn signals front and rear.

Where would you put them? Mounting them on top would look horrible and putting them underneath eliminates clearance advantages.

I really would like to get one of these, but giving up integrated fog lights and turn signals is not an option for me.:frown:

French them in after the fact. I don't have a clue why it is called Frenched In, but I like having them reset into the bumper.

I had the TJM. I was amazed at how far it stuck out. My new bumper is something crazy like 2" closer to the grill than the TJM was. Looking at the photos it is hard to tell without a tape on them but I think Slee's looks pretty respectable in terms of being skinny.

nope, just been spending a bunch of time there lately.

like you're tongue in a "french kiss"...its inside the face.

I tried to picture the difference Thursday when I took the shots, but I'll get some better comparisons and take a tape measure to both if Christo doesnt beat me to it.

While I would like to have recessed lights in the bumper. I don't think I should have to spend $1000+ on a bumper, only to have to spend more money to cut, weld, and repaint it in order to have recessed lights.

That said, I think having the option for slightly different bumper that has the integrated lights would be a good move, even if it costs/weighs more.

why not just put aux fog lights on the light tabs, wire it to the factory switch and call it done? You know, just like how every other person that buys the bumper will do it.

My concern is not fog lights, its the turn signals. I won't ghetto rig my marker lamps to be front turn signals. At this point, I will just stick with an ARB. I find it hard to believe that Slee can't make the wings strong enough and still have recessed fog light and turn signal mounts (Slee, not trying to bash your products).

I don't think it is a strength issue. I think it is a time and cost issue. It takes a lot of time to get lights mounted into the bumper, developing brackets and doing finish work to make them look right. I imagine the average customer isn't willing to fork over the extra money to do it. And then you have people who will complain about which lights fit and which ones do not.

What seems like a very simple request is not. The issue is what light kit you use. Adjustability for the lights. Overall cost, Strength of the wings, we well as protection of the lights (for the intended use of the bumper). Cutting a hole in the front face of the wing changes the whole structure of the wing as well as the strength.

The Land Cruiser uses turn and marker lights in the corner light. The Lexus does not. So I do not see what the problem is with converting the side marker lights to dual function.

I have a tough time putting a lights and marker lights in a bumper, where the idea of the bumper is to be stronger, closer to the body and probably better for the use in rocks etc. They are prone to damage, even more so if we would put them in the face of this bumper.

where are the turn signals on a Land Cruiser? Anyone know?

Next to the headlights.

If I had a Lexus and had this issue I'd take out my handy dandy drill and tap into the running lights and add a bulb for the turn signals. I'm going to do this on a 40 series I'm working on. I'll drill the H4 housing so the turn signal will be inside the headlight.

Yup, there is that as well. However strength is a major concern, especially if you are trying to make the wing strong enough so that it does not rely on the upper tubes for additional strength.

I thought I saw another (unused) lamp harness on the corner of my LX when i removed the bumper. Could that be the LC corner signal harness?

;) I know, I have LC marker lights with dual filament 1157 sockets so (when I get around to it) I can wire the high power on my bulbs to be my turn signal also.

I looked at some pictures of LCs and at my LXs and feel like a retarded jerk now.:o

Loud, can you post a pic of those sockets?

I have a clear corner version of the LC lights. I just went to the toy dealer and picked up two sockets for the LC lights and wired the park lights. If I didn't have the signal lights in the ARB I would have just extended the original signal wire up to the corner lights....and would have the exact same (and legal) setup as the LCs

i figured that now that Slee has the bumper on his own rig I would post up picks that I took at camp today. Not only does he have a new front bumper but he has a new rear one as well. VERY SWEET! Thank you Cristo for all of your continued innovation and craftsmanship.
