SLEE 200 Bumper Photos...! *UPDATE!*

Continuing this convo with a couple knuckleheads bc I think it’s important people help each other not die in the desert: :meh:

This particular late afternoon (photo below) convinced me to go lighted. -Vehicles were randomly flying all over the place and out of nowhere.

I was about to mount my standard (non lit) flag before hitting the bumps/dunes/rolling trails, but then realized my flag would be basically invisible in these conditions. **Started noticing bright, lighted whips whirring around me...and it all made sense. They are clearly 360 degrees visible unlike tail lights and head lights...and from behind bumps & above dips.

Apparently a couple knuckleheads here disagree. Hope they don’t kill anyone. :)

It's the internet, so I wouldn't care too much if others disagree with your stance on stuff. I am guilty of getting wound up about stupid stuff online all the time. I have spent some time on the Dumont Dunes in CA, and I noticed lighted whips all over the place. I thought they looked ridiculous, until the sun went down and I was amazed at the safety/utility they offered. For the vast majority of this country, I don't think a lighted or even unlighted whip is necessary, but for the type of wheeling you have in that part of the country I agree it's very useful if not necessary. I've noticed a lot of Socal dudes are prerunner racer boy wannabes, and they are reckless and drive fast over blind hills. Being seen could literally be a matter of life and death out there.

Not sure why anyone would hate on the buggy whip.... if you don't like it, don't install one on your rig. Here in west Texas we have Red Sands Off Road park. The place isn't Glamis, but there are tons of legit sand dunes to wheel on and we have a great time on them. Out here a buggy whip is a *must have* safety item. The fact that it lights up is even better! Love what you have done with Bubba!

Say what you will about illuminated flags but if you are playing in the dunes at night or low viz conditions they are a must. Luckily the guy who crested a dune from the opposite direction at exactly the same time and space as I crested it on my dirtbike had one on his buggy or I would be minus one head right now.

Exactly.
In the daylight, it’s simply a legally-required flag.

But in the dark...heavy dust...or busy season in the desert? It’s your ticket to avoiding killing people...or getting yourself killed.

Now watch me whip.
Watch me nae nae.

A Millennial reference spelled correctly...and here I was think I was the sole member under the age of 50 :p

I have no idea what nae nae is about...so I guess I be git’n old...

Bump this thread.

I am close to pulling a trigger on the Slee rear bumper. This will be probably the single highest ticket item on the LC, so seeking additional input from existing users.

How is it holding up? How is the ease of use? Swing latches, etc. Any regrets or just happy campers?

Thanks!

@unclemat ...

I don’t know anyone who has beat on their @sleeoffroad rear bumper harder than I have... The thing already—literally—paid for itself on my first major outing a few years ago...saving my right side panels in Moab because the side wing took the full weight of my truck without budging even a 1/4 inch...and I have massively whacked the Slee a zillion times even with heavy stuff mounted to it and my 8000#+ truck.

A mere 11 additional seconds to open swing-outs compared to hatch alone...even less if I hurry.

Zero regrets.

Thanks for the feedback!

The only thing I wish there was a solution for camera relocation. I think what might make most sense is to install an additional camera mounted elsewhere (like in the spoiler), hooked up to a reverse camera mirror. 200 uses a Gentex mirror so it should be easy to swap to one with a camera.

I know others have done a stock camera relocation with a longer cable...and I’m pretty sure Slee has done relocation for others in their shop.

For mine...
...I mounted my own inexpensive camera on the right side swingout, centered above the hitch. The cool thing about this method is I don’t have to be in reverse. I just flip on the screen I added on the right side of my dash and I’ve got a rear view any time i want it. If I want help center a ball hitch under a trailer, I just angle the camera downward and it’s right there.

But again... Camera relocation is totally doable, and is actually easier on the Slee because of so many possible mounting points. Under the basket...either swingout...tire carrier, etc.

Camera relocation is pretty simple to accomplish.
One of the easier parts of installing a rear bumper

There ya go, @unclemat !

What @terdrocket said...

For mine, I just decided I’d like to have a full-time rear view option...but like he said...camera relocations are done all the time, so it’s not Slee specific and not a big deal.

pears to have plenty of traction. However, I too believe it is priced pretty stiff. I was really looking forward to this bumper but will need to keep looking.

FWIW I had another Slee employee give me a number about $1000 lower. I was a buyer at that num

Any info on that specific solution?

Also, what bumper is that??

@Markuson how did you mount the ram on the O' #$%^ handle? I was trying to figure this out today. didn't know someone had already done it... 👍

Full disclosure... I got the idea from @ethernectar a few years ago. You remove one or more of the bolts that hold the handle on...and then use a combination of length and spacers with a pass-through RAM ball. I have made massive use of these on both sides, and they work extremely well. They do not interfere with the airbags, as the dash and steering wheel bags miss them as to the side curtains.

I used these plus small washers...length chosen according to whether I also added a second ball.
