I wired a 20 amp 120v outlet about every 5’

When I built my shop, I put in circuits that alternated one to the other for outlets so I'd always have two different circuits within reach. Just this afternoon, the miter saw bogged down when I was cutting a 4x4. Swapped the plug from one outlet to the next one over and finished my cut before having to go to the panel to reset the breaker. The other advantage is being able to plug something like a dust collector into one circuit and the tool into the other circuit.

That’s a good idea. Too late for me, I’m done with this I hope!

Got my panel wired today. Also ran the heavy cable from shop to house and hooked up the disconnect ends. Otherwise just still installing outlets and lights. Finished all my overhead outlets when I had the scissor lift and found out I need tamper resistant even on the ceiling so I’ll need to redo 27 outlets by ladder….
Getting my inspection Monday and if all goes well, I get approval to energize; that’ll take about 1-2 weeks for my utility to get to that.

Looks great from here.

Of all the things I have learned and done by myself on my house and shop build, installing the power has been among the most personally satisfying.

I got lucky with those tamper-proof outlets…I hope it’s only while new but it takes a little extra push when plugging something in

I am assuming code changed on those tamper proof outlets or you have a different entity that you have comply with. Mine was wired in 2016 and I didn't have to use any of those except on the outside.

Not sure when it changed. We are on the 2023 code. That’s been a real joy to read and try to understand, being that I am in no way an electrician.

Electrical passed, ready to energize!

Haven’t gotten any shop work done in a week or two but had insulation delivered earlier this week and a few hours today getting the walls done. I got all the wall insulation in; need to go back and put the rest of the horizontal boards in then plastic sheeting before wall covering. Family day tomorrow then I plan to get the ceiling insulation done and hopefully close to all the way sheeted Sunday. Power gets turned on Tuesday so hopefully I can get the floor heater filled and turned on Tuesday or Wednesday. Work is going to get in the way of progress all next week.
Made my kids a fort out of the ceiling insulation bales in the center of the floor, second pic.

I’m sure you did the math so I would like to know what the price difference was. Obviously this way you aren’t paying labor.

Spray foam vs what you choose

We just had our big shop ceiling spray foamed and wow what a difference. Although pricey, it cut our heating oil burn down HUGE amounts.

I didn’t look into spray foam at all. I talked to one guy that did it and his complaint was everything was encased in there (wires, electric boxes, etc) unless you did the foam first. Also said when he went to add outdoor outlets later it was a pain. The big kicker though was the company I got it from said they don’t recommend spray foam on their metal. I didn’t ask why as I already planned on batts.
Was $4100 delivered for about 1800 sq ft each of R19 for walls and R38 for ceiling. When I did the math on getting it from a big box store it was like $6000 just for the R38.

I think you would have spent 3-4 times that for spray foam. But man it’s nice.

Definitely a pain if need to go back into walls or ceiling later though.

This little fella came to visit today too. We feed all the does and this is the first buck we’ve seen. Archery is open but I don’t shoot the neighborhood animals.

Ceiling insulation done. Starting on sheeting the ceiling but don’t think I’ll get very far tonight. Tomorrow I need to switch gears and get all the floor heat installed and ready so when they turn the power on Tuesday I can come home from work, fill the floor and turn it on!

Looking good! Hope you wore a respirator or at least a mask. Fiberglass in your lungs will really F you up.

I should have but didn’t. I had a sore throat when I woke up Monday so I’m sure that’s related. Now I know how menthol smokers feel.

Just finished my small addition with R13, R30 and R49. It does not seem to itch as much as it did 40 years ago. Even says something on the bag about being cottony soft..( some sales pitch). I had that sore throat for a few days while installing this. By the time I finished, I got pretty good with that hammer stapler both left and right handed swing in that 14.5” space

I did have my pole barn spray foamed.. everything said here is true. I pre-wired it all, even 220V outlets in spots. I found it would be very convenient to have another 220V outlet and maybe a 3-way switch for lights on the other end.

Frankly, I never added them as it was going to be a real pain in the butt along the walls. On the other hand, it is very comfortable inside the pole barn

Sorry my finger is in the photo below

You sure that’s a finger?…..

The insulation I used said next gen or something. I was commenting to my wife it didn’t seem itchy at all and way less dust/fibers than I remember.

For your airline; are you using normal water pex? I see the blue line to the drop. I was debating on using standard pex for my airline. I looked at the pex-al kits but they don’t come with enough termination points for what I want. I’ve talked to a few people that used standard pex (3/4” I think) and said it worked great and held up fine since it’s not getting exposed to uv.

@Skreddy No on the airline,,,it is that Rapid Air MaxLine 3/4”. I ordered this from Amazon 2 yrs ago, used 8 drops, and needed about 25’ more. The 8 drops is too many I know but I wanted the convenience of easy nearby access not matter where I might be needing it. It is GREAT! @Michael B had recommended it to me and it is a very nice system to work with and assemble.

I was told that the pex is subject to explosive break thru and that disturbed me. My compressor is 2-stage and is set to about 140lbs to feed my glass bead cabinet. I had previously had galvanized 3/4” pipe in the old garage and that held fine for 30+ years. The termination kits can add up but I have well under $500 in the entire run of about 40’, 8 drops about 8 feet apart that run down from the main overhead feed about 6’…..then around 2 inside corners and a hose reel.. my compressor is outside under the lean to type overhang.
