Yesterday I finished the wainscoting on all 3 sides and started on upper wall panels.

Then, turned to some house work. We bought this house as a project and have completely remodeled about 2/3 of it so far. Last thing I need to finish in the downstairs is the floor. It’s concrete about 2’ below grade. Doing hickory hardwood in the rest of the house and wanted everything to match. Found a place that could make us a narrow, unfinished engineered plank suitable for glue down use below grade. Have about 600 sq ft to do and knocked out about half that yesterday. Hard part (hallway) is done. The remainder is just square and should go relatively quickly.

Floor looks awesome!!!!

Finished one wall today. Only got a couple hours to work on it with family stuff and it was the hardest wall, having to cut around windows. Should get a bit more done tomorrow if the weather holds out, then back to work Monday night so progress will slow for a week.
Looks more gray in the pic due to time of day.

Other side and back wall almost done. Have to go back on night shifts for a week tomorrow but I’ll get a couple hours a day when I get up so should finish up outside by next weekend.

@Skreddy I watched my pole barn being built…. And there were 4 guys.. I am amazed at the progress you are making …👏

The concrete was poured yesterday and control joints cut today. Ended up right at 5” thick and the floor tubes are still holding pressure so none were cut or damaged; that’s a big relief.

Been a productive few days. Got off work Friday morning at 6 and took a couple hour nap then hit it hard. The metal is finished (trim pieces missing in pic are on now). Got 1 overhead door in and both man doors. Also installed the meter base. Currently the house is fed power from the back property line with overhead that goes about 7’ above the deck. Not even sure how that passed. Now it’ll be 400 amp underground to shop then split 200 amp to shop and 200 amp to house underground. Want to get the doors all on before I start working because: crackheads. We don’t have much theft or anything in our neighborhood but do get the occasional trashy folk driving through. It’d be nice to be able to have it all locked up before I start running easy to steal copper.

Oh, also finished installing my downstairs floor. I’ll try to sand and finish it next week. Have to go back to work that pays for 7 days.

Funny side note. I replumbed this entire house. We took all the old copper pipe to a recycler and got about $800 so that was nice. While we were at the recycler, 2 guys that really didn’t look like electricians (I’m pretty good at stereotyping) came in with bundled copper wire that still had a tag on it to denote the job it was for. Big wire, like 4 gauge copper to feed from pole to meter, probably 100’. They said “boss said this wire was wrong so go scrap it and you can keep the money”. I didn’t hear how much they got but it looked pretty heavy.

Funny you mentioned both copper events…. 25 years ago I was at the Harley dealership and the owner knew I lived close to the head mechanic who had been there a life time. He was rebuilding his old house little by little and asked me if on the way home, I could stop in and check to see if someone broke in and stole the copper out of the roughed out walls…sure enough they had.

20 years later my friend who is an electrician was told they were going to rewire a school… he built a machine that stripped the outer sheathing from the old cable and had cut it all into 12” lengths, had it weighed to estimate the value….when all said and done he had over $6000.00 and bought his wife a used Saab 900 convertible for about $3000 more. I’m planning cut this up soon and get rid of it at the recycler..T-6035 Aluminum. On the other hand I have way too much on the drawing board

You truly are doing a spectacular job on the building with some big time power supply. I had to use schedule 80 conduit 160’ underground…not cheap for something I don’t get to look at

Worked 7 days in a row and yesterday and today I finished sanding house floors and started coating. Next week will be back on shop build to hopefully get all electrical done.

Passed my structure final inspection today. He said I did a better job than most of the pros around here. Made me happy.

@Skreddy just from the earlier photos of your pole barn I could see that your work is EASILY high end pro level. To have it confirmed when you don’t expect it by the big boss says a lot. Hang that badge on the shop wall some where!! Makes some notes here and there and stuff it in the walls.

Here a side note I found funny. Back in 2007, my son did several renovations on a house we had at the shore. 4 years later Hurricane Sandy flooded it with 6 feet of seawater. When I was ripping off the sheet rock…up on one of the headers was a note, and date signed by my son and his helpers when they did these renovations with a local newspaper from 2007. We all laughed.

On the other hand…imagine the look on some family’s faces 100 years from now when they re-do a room some where that you’ve left a little time capsule

Don’t mind me, you get a bit sentimental as you get older 🥹

We did that in this house, let my kids color and write their names inside a couple of the walls. My 5 year old also drew and wrote her name on one of the trusses in the shop.

The work output and quality is amazing. What do you do for a "real" job? Reading these makes me tired  I need to get up there and say hi.

I’ve had the last 3 days off work so I got all my rafters in and ran all my wire. Now the slower part of finishing all the outlets, switches and lights. I wired a 20 amp 120v outlet about every 5’, a 240v about every 10’. Then 3 20 amp 120v outlets spaced front to back down the center of building in the ceiling for cord reel lights/extension cords, 2 fan boxes for some 8’ ceiling fans. Half dozen outside outlets down low and half dozen flood lights tucked up under the eaves. Then the wiring for the floor heat, 2 post lift, dedicated air comp circuit and wired to an outside panel for an ac unit if I ever add one. Figure I better do it now.

Put up some temp lights so I can work a little longer after dark at 4pm... These are the lights that’ll be on the ceiling. 8’ 15,000 lumen led. I’ll have about 20 of them. Evenly spaced. I want it bright!

Pics aren’t that exciting at this stage.

Also switched the plan from the epoxy floor. I really didn’t feel like grinding the floor but I really didn’t want to put something down that starts chipping up in 3-5 years. Once all my junk is in here, I really don’t want to move it back out for a week to redo floor coating.

I was talking to someone that mentioned concrete densifiers. Got in contact with Garage Flooring LLC (along with lots of research and reading). Ordered a combo from them that’s a densifier and sealer; a product by GhostShield. I don’t need the look of epoxy, mostly just don’t want oil stains (mmmmmm knuckle jobs on 40 series I never should’ve bought….) and was told the densifier/sealer combo will do very well for what I want. Sealer will need reapplied over time but is a lot easier and quicker and from my understanding, really only needs reapplied where it wears out like walking/driving areas. So no need to move out everything else.

Amazing progress. What type of boiler are you using for your floor heat? I bought my heat package from a company called Radiantec. They were pretty decent to deal with.

I am having my buddy who is a contractor build a lean to shed roof on the side of my shop. It will allow me to get my travel trailer under a roof. My original plan was to store it inside, but of course I have too many other things in there for it to fit  If you ever anticipate wanting this type of roof, you may want to reinforce that side of the shop before you do drywall.

I don’t have room for a lean to, we looked into it. I got my floor stuff from The Radiant Floor Company. Boiler is an Electro Industries mini boiler.

Got my panel wired today. Also ran the heavy cable from shop to house and hooked up the disconnect ends. Otherwise just still installing outlets and lights. Finished all my overhead outlets when I had the scissor lift and found out I need tamper resistant even on the ceiling so I’ll need to redo 27 outlets by ladder….
Getting my inspection Monday and if all goes well, I get approval to energize; that’ll take about 1-2 weeks for my utility to get to that.
