Are you using a lift to install the sheeting for the ceiling?
Yes, been renting a little electric scissor lift for insulation, wiring and ceiling sheeting. I bought a cheap 16’ drywall panel lift but the scissor has been a lot easier. Set the panels across the top cage bars, run it up to about an inch from ceiling and I’ll lay on my back and push the plywood up with my feet, wife takes a break from Facebook and says I’m lined up, then screw it in. I’ll get the lift again next week to finish the sheeting and get my light mounts up. With the rental being closed Xmas, I’ll get 3 days on the lift for the price of one!

Last night after work I was able to spray the final floor coat. My wife cleaned the floor really well while I was at work so that helped. While wet, it darkened the floor and gave it a very glossy look. I know it won’t stay this way but I kind of liked it. Peeked in there this morning before work and was pretty much dry, little darker than before but basically just looks like concrete. 2 weeks off after today so hoping to get it all wrapped up in there.

Planning on epoxying the floor or anything like that?
Nope. Was going to epoxy but using the densifier and sealer instead. I don’t need the looks of epoxy, just the protection. This seemed like the best option for my goals with no need to reapply or worry about chips, cracks, flaking in the epoxy.

probably the same route i will go. My buddys shop has epoxy floors and while it looks amazing he wont do any kind of mig welding in his shop because it will burn the floor ( or so he says ) So thats a no go for me

looks great

Got a later start than I intended today and had a little whiskey induced headache until noon but ceiling and walls are sheeted! Well, the window wall needs 2 more sheets but everywhere is closed so I’ll start painting tomorrow and get those sheets Thursday morning. Goal is finish painting, lights and fans up by end of this weekend. Door tracks should be here next week and once they’re on I can get the lift inside and installed then done! Besides plumbing air lines, cabinets, some shelves, etc.

I love my epoxy floor but one of our members did say….”wait until you e dropped a 10mm nut”.

Well I have dropped quite a few and I rarely find them. Sometimes I find them when I sweep up. That gray/white paint chip finish embedded in the clear makes it very hard to see things. I now keep a supply of M4 and up in case

As for welding…I’m not welding daily but the dozen or so times i’ve used my MIG welder inside the shop…not a problem

I did the rustoleum epoxy in my garage and I’ve stared at plenty of things I didn’t see with the flake pattern.

My biggest thoughts were dropping heavy things and chipping the epoxy and cutting/grinding/welding and burning it. My floor is another work surface so I’m going to hit it with weld slag, plasma cutter arc, grinding wheel, big hammer, etc.

I’ll admit….i have dropped my first hammer and it landed perfectly on the claw…mr first 1” chip was disheartening….i have subsequently drooped tools that have left scars and some nothing.. I save up about 6 or so them I mix a small 1/2 cup of mix and recoat..sanding prior… but it works. Maybe it’s not the work surface I thought. Spilled oils are a breeze though

Its been almost 15 years, but I did an epoxy coat with a couple of those kits from Home Depot. Turned out really nice, and wasnt the welding or dropping stuff on it so much as the rolling of the car dollies with steel wheels and brake fluid. A couple drops of brake fluid and it shrunk/wrinkled about a 8"x8" area. Made it even worse when I tried to clean it up and then match the patched area- could never get it to look right, and would never do it again.

Ill have to look at what exact brand it was, but when we did my floor in the new shop, we used a sealer straight out of the sprayer. Put it on heavy, but even and left it. Left a really nice semi gloss, non slip finish thats been tough and taken its share of abuse. Worst area, which is totally expected, is under the lift where a lot of welding/cutting, and fluids get spilled. Fluids wipe right up, but the best thing Ive found is the puppy pee pads you can get from Costco. Cheap, and work awesome for catching any spills/drips.

This was the rustoleum rocksolid kit in our house garage. Really happy with it so far (only been 8 months).
Don't get me wrong, I really like the epoxy. I just felt I’d ruin sections of it in the shop and never get it to look right. We plan to sell this house in 10-15 years and don’t want to redo the floor in that time or have someone look and take away from the rest of the shop because the floor looks trashed. I think the only way to get a long lasting epoxy would’ve cost a lot more than I was willing to spend.

Slow going. I hate painting. This osb just drinks the primer but I expected that.

Up until 1 this morning until I ran out of primer doing the walls. Got more and finished walls and ceiling today. I hate painting. Start on white paint tomorrow.

Is that a shop or a grow house?!

Are you going to take a black magic marker and outline each tool on the walls? I did this once 35 years ago….and I don’t recommend it!!

No tool outlines. My tools are easy enough to find. They’re usually piled on the bench or scattered all over the floor…..

In another forum, Garage Journal, one of the poster’s painted lines on the walls where all of his utilities were inside the walls. He color coded each utility. It looked a lot like the interior of the Starship Enterprise.

I hate painting.

Man, I am with you on this, I got so sick of it. Nothing but respect for people that do it for a living; I could never do that.

Painted our new room last week…primer, ceiling, and walls…like doing it twice. And for another guy who hates painting, you’re 101% right. Trying now to lift the tv onto the wall mount. My wife can only go so much and can’t make the extra little lift.. too much for a solo so, I will need to ask a
neighbor. Something I have not done in 47 years!!

I’m hoping 1 heavy coat of paint will do. I think that’s all the ceiling will get regardless. My shoulders are killing me from 1800 sq ft of overhead rolling.

That overhead work is no fun.
I hired a painter and he sprayed and back rolled the whole shop, if I recall was under $1k all in with supplies, no regrets.
