Series 80 Dash switch bezel / any interest???

Here's the current status of my unauthorized Ram Mount phone-holder install.

I took a RAM 2 7/16" X 1 5/16" base and with my cutoff wheel grinded it down to fit the height of the bezel. I drilled holes in the blanks and bolted the base to it. Its solid on the blanks, but I'm going to either glue them in place or add a brace across the back to reinforce. Then I installed the bezel and clipped a Ram Universal X-Grip to the base. Still need to paint the bare metal on the Ram base.

Only issue I have is the screw on the right side of the bezel into the dash isn't long enough to bite. Going to replace it with a longer wood screw tomorrow unless y'all have any advice for me.

I'll let y'all know how it holds up, and I'll post better photos during the day.

I thought this location would be great place to put a bracket to hold the faceplate of a HAM radio. I like how you modified the dash bezel to hold the ram mount. Please let me know how solid it is. Rather than fab up a metal mounting plate, maybe this is an option.

I have about 4,000 miles on it so far, lots of driving lately! I'd call it super solid with my iphone 6. Holds it steady enough for interaction with the phone and I've had no complications at all as far as holding strong.

There is one drawback that I must mention, and it has nothing to do iwth BH3d's plate. But the Ram Mount that I have only rotates 45 degrees. I wish it would rotate 90!

Good to hear it's holding up.

So I finally got some pics of the new cell phone mount attachment for my dash bezel. It was field tested with an iphone 6 plus with no complaints. I taped it to the dash of my 100 (looked awful) BUT it held my Samsung S5 without issue for a few weeks now. I have not tried the smaller Iphone sized phones. I will try to track a used one down and do some real world testing. Here is how the prototype turned out. It was a bit rough for a prototype. the final version will be nice and smooth. It pivots about 20 degrees left and right and uses the two factory screws to attach. The bottom has a slot for a cell phone/usb charger to come up through the bottom for charging while driving. I just need to know if there is interest in this. If so, I looking to get a rough idea on how large I should make the first batch.

A suggestion would be to have it lock into place somehow, and have the ability to tilt 90 degrees to one side. That would allow landscape mode.

Or for folks who use an Otterbox defender case, have your mount accept the belt clip/hard case, so it could rotate. That also gets the empty belt clip hard case off your hip, and has it stored somewhere. That could be more of a generic design, rather than be phone model specific.

Great Product development.

Thanks for the ideas. I definitely wanted something totally universal. something that any phone from any brand can just be sat in there. I looked at different methods of attachment but most were phone/brand specific or at least case specific. Others were cumbersome and needed a lot of work to get the phone in and out. If the phone is being used for GPS only and stays there permanitely then that is the way to go, but if this is your normal every day use phone then you want to just set it in place quickly as you are entering and removing it quickly while exiting the vehicle. Anything that snaps into place snugly but can be done so quickly seems to be phone model specific. I couldn't find anything that allows for a phone to "click" into place that accepts all types of phones on the market. This prototype is still up in the air for changes, so there may be a ton of changes before I actually release the final design. Overall size, shape, attachment method wont change much. The only area that may change is the option to swivel left to right to lay the screen horizontal and also the option to "click" the phone into place. Keep the thoughts coming. If there is something on the market that is truly universal and allows for quick insert and removal with a click into place option then I would love to see that. I may be able to modify my mount to accept that system.

Honestly, I'd be happy with a good solid mount to put whatever on it. Preferably something big enough to screw one of these to

Then I could use a universal mount that will go landscape and cover just about any phone
