Hi all, I'm glad to join as I'm new to the FJ's. I just got a 73 FJ 40 and she's in really great shape however with no seat belts I don't feel comfortable taking top off and driving my kids around! I've done some research but really not sure who/what to go with. I don't have a roll bar so I guess I'm stuck with lap belts. I'm hoping someone out there has already been where I am and would like to pick your brains about getting the best bang for the buck. Any help is appreciated. Thanx in advance!!

Thanx. That's not bad price for good ones. There is a 3rd front seat too? Is a 3rd seat an option or someone's brain child?

OEM are still available from Toyota for about $60 per.

are those the retractable lap belts or just the adjustable strap, lap belts?

If I remember correctly, they are for the rear jump seats on a later 40. So probably adjustable strap.

Technically the middle seat coul be considered a seat. From my days of driving a manual S10 with a bench, Noone would want to sit there with your shift hand so close to their business end.

Ha! Business end looks about right! I have 4 kids so they will sit in back facing each other. I don't think anyone will ever sit there either I'd like to put a belt there. Recently I got a cheap belt for another car, feels cheap, didn't like it. I want a good one. Also, I want to just get the right kit...all included, hardware, brackets, whatever, made specifically for it so no hidden issues.

JDC1...I emailed "coolcruisers" and they said they did not make a kit for FJ without roll bar. And that lap belts they made would be too short. Didn't sound right but ??? Thanx for link...

No problem, I'm going to have to start thinking about belts soon. I am adding a roll bar to our 72 so it will get 3 pt. shoulder belts. Might be worthwhile to check out the OEM route.

Seems that Specter is only one I feel comfortable with thus far...they got some used OEM I may go with.

I'm confused, is this 73 from another market? Or possibly have after market seats? US market 73 had buckets up front with a center console. If the 73 has a hard top it will have the threaded on the top of the sides for three point seat belts. 1/76 thru the 77 model there is a bracket for the lower retractable part of the three point seat belts that could be added to the 73 hard top sides. I sourced some from a 84 troop carrier from Australia.

Did you end up buying seat belts after all? If so, can you provide pictures? I have the same exact problem as you as far as no seat belts or roll cage. Recently bought an "FJ" (frame is BJ but previous owner changed it to gasoline motor). My best bet has seemed to be CCOT or CruiserCorps.com. They sell either lap or 3 point but seems like lap belt is my best option since I don't have the bar. Thanks!

Quinny46 hasn't logged on Mud since May. He never posted any pictures. If you want help posting pictures of your current seats would help. Quinny46 had 73 which should have but let seats in the US but sounded like a bench. Never posted a picture so was hard to tell what he had or what he needed.

Appreciate the reply! I just joined today but I'm currently on travel for work so I'll take some detailed pictures when I return home in about a week.
