Seat belt question

I used the seat back stops, because they seemed to be the strongest anchor points.
Do you guys have pics of where you mounted your retractors with or without L brackets? Can you please share?

The seat back stops are not "seat belt" anchor points.

Your location seems fine I would just add a set of L-brackets as doublers for the seat back stops and use the extra-large backup washers provided in the kit for the inner fenders.

This way every attachment point would have the 7/16” grade five or better minimum required hardware with back-up plates on the sheet metal.

Thanks J Mack. I will take a picture later today of the backup plates that I used on the inside of the seat back supports and I'd like to hear thoughts after I post. I think I still have L brackets I could add too. I do want this to be safe. That's the whole idea. If anyone out there has found better mounting points ( or whatever I'm supposed to call where you attach the reel) in the cargo area I'd really like to see where they are located too.

Every attachment point should have the 7/16” grade five or better minimum required hardware with back-up plates on the sheet metal. As far as I can remember the seat back stops are held in with 5mm or 6mm screws and they are made from ~18 gauge sheet metal.

If I was putting my family members in the back seat and expected the belts to protect them in a hard impact I would mount Inertia locking retractor mechanism with grade 8, 7/16-20 hardware with ¼” or better doublers with as much surface area as practical when going through sheet metal, if I needed to change mounting angles I would use ¼” or better angle to accomplish this.

Again I would not rely on the seat back stop material thickness or mounting hardware to save my family members regardless of how many flat washers you stack up on the inside.

Just my two peso’s

Same here for the belts, but I need that on the seat back support (+ L bracket to wheel well) if that's where they're going
to stay. That's up to the new owner to decide! It's officially sold today.
Great advice to consider and the beginning of a new to-do list!

I solved seatbelts by putting Silverado bucket seats with integral shoulder harnesses in the front. For the rear I didn't want to go to the pillars so I bent a roll cage and put the shoulder points there.

Sorry to open up a can of worms here. I have local rules and regulations to adhere to as well so these would naturally come into consideration when determining how to mount the retractable part of the seatbelt.

I think Bob was asking if regulations were as strict in Australia as they are in California.

I have never had to do a vehicle inspection as I've seen people talk about in other states. Maybe if you have a fix it ticket for some item but nobody has ever looked over any of my cars. The only thing they do is check smog and engine mods.

I need to upgrade from rear lap belts to shoulder/lap belts in my pig also. I like the retro look of the belts PabloCruise posted. Most original looking belts I've seen for a great price too.

I'm also struggling with the best place to mount the retractor as well. Anyone have a better place/idea in mind? Got pics?! :)

Mud be something in the air. Wife said she wasn't going to cruise with me any more until I replaced the 40 year old originals. Did front and back yesterday.

As far as I know. It was there when I got it.

That upper rear mount is there from the factory, but it's covered up by the headliner on the older ones.

Just a heads up for any and everyone. I order the el'cheapo $64.95 3 point retractable belt from seatbeltsplus.com.
The retractable mechanism keeps locking up when I try to fasten my belt by pulling on the shoulder strap. I'll keep messing with it but so far not real happy with the results.
