I’m down in Florida. Sorry to miss you. What’s the occasion to drive 1/2 the country in a pickup

Staging the 75 closer to Colorado for SAS this summer. Bummer you won’t be around as i go right by your place relatively speaking.
Went through PA to avoid DC traffic:

Made it to Knoxville without any issues except I forgot to disconnect the speed alarm so got reminded every time I was north of 74mph. Truck ran flawlessly and was getting 15mpg averaging 65mph. -700 miles down, 1100 to go😀

Digging the 250th/halloween vibes

Dog was not happy when told she couldn’t come😥

Secured a great campsite just outside Knoxville on part of a horse farm. Secluded and a great place to bathe in the morning in the creek.

Made to Austin no sweat. Had a great visit with @wngrog on the way and dropped the truck with @bottombracket. Only “issue” I had was the AC condenser housing drain was clogged. Found this out when I got a shoe filled with water on a right hand turn. Pulled the drain hose from the bottom of the condenser housing and nothing… Shoved my key up in the drain and whoosh, 3 liters of water came out in a hurry! Lucky for the stock rubber mat. used the water everywhere to wipe down the mat and moved on, all good now.

Made it to Shreveport on the second day, camped and headed out the next morning:

Crossed the Mississippi, now by my rules I can eat Mexican food. Mexican food east of the Mississippi is hit or miss IMO

Got off the super-slab and took two lane roads into Austin.

Somewhere in rural Texas…

Thanks! Really enjoyed the trip. More to come when we take it to Arizona and Colorado for the Solid Axle Summit!

After a bit of a delay on my part, I got my Manta headers and extractor back from Swain Coatings and they are now ready for installation. These headers are stainless steel but the coating helps in two ways; 1. Keeps heat in the header thereby increasing the velocity of the exhaust gasses thus improving performance and 2. Helps reduce temperatures in the engine compartment. Swain Coatings offer a premier product that is thicker and better for performance than many other commercially available ceramic coatings that mostly only provide a nice finish. Below is a link for anyone who wants to nerd out on exhaust coatings :)

How long did that take to get coated?

Got to meet James at SAS10 went on a trail run with him and talked about suspensions, great conversation I really enjoyed it.
Then he let me drive the 75 for a bit very generous of him Thanks James
Had a great time on the trail that day and it was great to meet you !

Love the road trip tale! Can you share specifics of your speed alarm disconnect?
Also, do you see a measurable difference in performance or fuel use with the headers?
Thanks!

Hello Ward, I’ve yet to find the speed alarm buzzer. I checked behind the instrument cluster, on the steering column etc and still can’t find it. Any help here would be greatly appreciated. Headers haven’t had any impact on fuel economy but the performance improvement is around 8hp give or take. For me, the biggest advantage is no more exhaust leaks and a system that will last a while.

So, just completed another ~5000 miles, both on and off road in the 75. We had left the 75 in Austin, TX at @bottombracket casa and picked it up on 29th July. From there we headed to Flagstaff to pick up my 60 from @kelly saad . When in Austin, spent a night at The Continental Club, OG live music venue:

Loaded up and headed to Roswell the nest morning. Pulled into Bottomless Lakes and ran into @RevISK at camp! Always cool to see LC folks in random places. The next morning headed to Flagstaff and went to pick up the 60 Saturday morning at Kelly’s. We helped put the final assembly touches on the 60 and got prepped for the trip up to Ouray.

We had a great trail run with @Broski and were able to do a suspension tech talk along with a test and tune on both trucks. We spent time on CR31 for this as it also provides a nice opportunity to do a little history lesson on the Red Mountain Mining District.

On Imogene Pass, We had to rescue AJ from Austin as he was testing the limits on his 70. This was our first deployment of the winch on this trip… More to come on that topic.

Some of the old stamping machinery just north of Animas forks in the gulch to the left on the way to Hurricane pass. If you know where this is, then you know this is one of the most picturesque valleys in the area, thanks @kelly saad for the recommendation!

Next up….Some cool shots from the Alpine Loop. Went over to Lake City via Engineer Pass and returned via Cinnamon Pass. The smoke in Lake City was pretty unbearable, hoping for the best and that the fire fighting crews are able to protect the town.

After finishing up at SAS, we decided to head off to Moab, I mean it’s just around the corner so why not! Got into town, parked the 60 and headed off to Hell’s Revenge.

Winch deployment #2 for the trip. Arrived on this coming out of Hell’s Revenge. Both Occupants were fine but the Jeep needed to be put back with the shiny side up and rubber side down. Made quick work of this and had them upright and running with the assistance of a local in ~45min.
