the belleview was sold with the fj40. I would have to get a new winch. yeah I figured I would have to brace it up. I have seen this before somewhere on mud. I remember seeing you extended the frame horns o your build. I really wish I could find a good pto winch. that would be ideal. Looking at my bumper it looks like one was mounted in the past.

Well things keep getting worse about the pup. Somebody earlier said this as a possibility. I suspect a valve is bent in Cylenders 1 most likely. I can see where the piston kissed the valve. does not look to have damaged the piston beyond the mark it made. The worry is the head is cracked in the valve guide area. I could not really see any thing obvious in the combustion area other than it was cleaner due to coolant leak there. and the coolant leak could still be head gasket and the lower compression could still be head-gasket in #1. the corner head bold seemed looser.... but that could have been a student messing with it before I was focused on removing the head. I did check the head bolts torque several times. I am going to try and pull it out today with the students to check. going to check under the valve for cracks. worst case scenario I need a new head I guess. good news - no metal in the pan, compression in 2,3,4 was factory spec of around 160psi still when I was having all the issues, I also have all the parts to repair it other than the valve I am checking today for issues.

this is also a case of don't trust google on if the engine is non interference or not. Because I didn't think this was a interference engine. But I'll own my dumb mistakes.
@Roastchestnuts there was an 8274 on FB marketplace in Kitty Hawk a few days ago. I'm really smart phone stupid, but if interested I could try to send you the listing.
I cant spend money right now so its all good. I wish! I need to pay off a camera from my other expensive hobby photography haha. but maybe later this summer though. but I am currently selling other cameras to pay it off.
Maybe I’ve shared these before? My belleview equipped 55.

It just sat up on the top of the frame rails. I just had a stubby bumper that didn’t stick out any further than the factory one.
Classic belleview! if I do find one of those at least they are cheeper! and I already know how to pull them apart and repair them. I made my own mount for the fj40. I took the warn 8274 winch mount. and zipped it off then welded on my fabricated one for the belleview and braced it up!

side quest update: Alright its official! I have a intake valve thats bent on cylinder #1. I don't see any cracks in the head visually. and with a magnifying glass. I think I got lucky and the head gasket didn't seal properly and the valves were a separate issue. I pulled all the other intake valves to check and number 4 is suspect enough that I am going to replace it too. the other two valves seem un phased. and remember I was getting 160 psi on 2,3,4.

Tomorrow afternoon I am going to go over the head with a fine tooth comb. Its the best I got without having a machine shop close by. The head was machined down. and in-fact the old head gasket came off so clean I feel like the torque specs were too light from the haynes manual I have. I am going to do some research to find those specs. Maybe I can find a pdf of the FSM for the 1.9 isuzu g200 engine.

I am really excited to have some shielding gas again! I really need to invest in a second bottle of gas or one of the larger ones. I cant remember what size I am using. its not the biggest. 80cfm? is that how they measure them? I cant remember. Baby brain.... I am planning on finishing up all the welding on the rockers this weekend. Then I will be able to put the doors on it and take it for a quick spin. I really miss it to be honest. and with gas going the way its going who knows if Ill actually be able to use the fj55 this summer! still I am planning on doing some paint work in the summer anyway.

I forgot to mention I saw a fj40 on Ocracoke yesterday! anybody recognize it from a mud member? View attachment 4105523
Dude, can you email me that pic? I want to get a closer look at the rack mount unless someone knows who makes it. I want to build an exoskeleton rack that I can use with both soft and hard tops...

I did alot of work this past weekend! I finished welding the front and rear of the rocker in, finished welding up the front body mount, and I painted everything. Last things to do are color paint and doors! its getting there! starting to get excited again.

the old front body mount for reference. not much left of it. drivers side was much worse.

So as for the paint - I think I am going to go for a generic color from TCP. I used this paint for my samurai Project and really liked how easy it was to spray on and the product seemed good. also batch to batch they are extremely consistent. Thinking British racing green, woodland green a red of some sort. still have not decided fully. But I do like this line of paint. I can get a gallon for about 300$ with tax. Ill probibly order 2 gallons. Its single stage paint. I do like the ease of single stage.

Yes, that is the one!
@Dallas Todd had one I saw in person and I wish I studied more.

I have bought parts from him! nice guy
Yeah, good dude. Seems to have secret door to LandCruiser parts Narnia… always seems to come up with something cool.
