Well UPS delivered my Amoron package today. So they wrapped my receiver hitch in a paper bag and tossed in my hex bits. Someone rewrapped the bag with like a roll of tape. Receiver hitch ok - hard to hurt Pig Iron - but no bits. Called Amoron, and told to call back tomorrow. Filed a damage claim with UPS - some how I think I going to get screwed for the $18 for the bits.

Well no word from UPS, not surprising. However Amoron is sending me a new set of bits tomorrow, we will see.
That happened to me recently with somthing from amazon. I bought a brake line wrench (lost mine in the move) and when I got it there was a hole in the line and NO wrench... worked out they just sent me a new one.

Well its my Spring break from teaching! I am planning on getting a few projects done! stay tuned! Might do an off island trip to get some 16 inch split rims. I still gotta contact the seller though.

Amoron did actually next day replace for free the lost bits. Now to find my hammer powered impact driver and see if they are any good. Nothing from the UPS claim - not that I blame them for the poor packing by Amoron.

I got a few things finally done with the fj40. I ended up getting the windshield back in with the SOR gasket. The key was the rope trick but slowly and having my wive hold the windshield steady as I did it. took a few attempts to get it lined up perfectly. To get the lock in, I started in the corner and worked my way around slowly. I have one of the tools but steady pressure with my thumb worked magic with liberal amounts of the rubber seal conditioner pictured below. It made it super easy. I also used 3M Black Weatherstrip Adhesive to get a better weather seal and on the connection of the gasket. This stuff was messy. but Hopefully it will not leak now.

I lost my beautiful patina on the windshield hinges because I tore up those screws. I bought replacement screws from city racer. I ended up painting the hinges because the paint pretty much came off after air hammering and drilling out those screws. I reinstalled the screws with anti seize so the job wont be so bad for the next person.

Put the soft top back on today.

Going to start another project tomorrow.

I think I am going to start reassembling this here soon. I gotta buy the bearing and seal kit from @cruiseroutfit. and I gotta make sure all the gears are ok. @red66toy supplied me with a used but good input shaft as the one I had was fairly toast. Finally If I do want the 3speed t case I gotta get the gear that allows it to work.

This rear license plate light cover did not last long... I replaced this last year. I think I have the old cover and Ill just reuse that.

Paint the next one. I don't think Toyota is putting very good paint on them these days. While it looks like the original 'Pewter' color finish, I don't think it's nearly as robust and could use additional layers.

yeah I should have painted it. Luckily I still have the original one that was painted spring green. the base part on the original wore out but the cover was fine. I just reused the lens and gasket.

Woohoo! Looks great! Glad to know the formula for success.

I almost forgot to mention: I had a quick land cruiser meet up last weekend with @onemanarmy we chatted about his nice ls h55 swapped fj62, fj55s, postal jeeps! its always awesome to meet up with another cruiser head. Below is a shot of our wives and some land cruisers. There is a joke in there somewhere.

I did get my windshield reinstalled the next day.

Alright so you all know I have been looking for another project car..... I friend of mine is selling a suzuki samurai. I have always wanted one of these. The price is right. has 98k miles. 5 speed, functioning AC (I have only owned 1 ac vehicle haha) , Soft top vehicle. its got the rust that will give me fun project time.... hahah. looks to need a whole new windshield frame. NBD I just learned how to replace those gaskets and they sell whole windsheild frames for 150 - 200$ . where the door hinge mounts to the fender will need to be cut and replaced. the cowl corners where the windsheild attaches look to maybe need some work. hard to tell if its surface rust. Parts of the rear quarters need attention. Frame looks good. new radiator. Looks to be all stuff I can do. The plus to the samurai is that It will fit into my back yard and not take up much room. That front bumper has got to go. along with the rear surfboard racks. Got some ideas brewing on tires and rims too. I have known this samurai for a while and have seen it in person many times. I think I am going to go for it.

I also almost bought a toyota truck yesterday and the guy just would not come down on the price. but Rachael and I want something that she can drive that has a back seat on the beach easier anyway.

Check out the cool story of Edith, Porsche volcano ascent. The 911 set the land altitude record where it climbed the Volcano Ojod de Salado in Chile. Point to my mentioning this is because the previous record was held by a Suzuki Samurai. Go for it .

Thats a fact I actually knew! I think I learned that fact on the old top gear. The bolivia special with an fj40, suzuki jimny, and a range rover. The Suzuki is the only one that didnt have major issues on that trip. Horribly the fj40 rolled off a dune or somthing in the end of the special.

Hell yes on the Samurai! That bumper gives me Simon and Simon Dodge Power Wagon vibes in a bad way.

FJ40 axles work great under a Samurai. A little wider and stronger.
