Speaking of radiators. I am trying to source one and of the places I have contacted 2 were over 700 bucks before shipping and one cancelled my order saying they refuse to ship since it would be prone to being damaged. Still checking......

Pepper has gotten me eight hours home w/ a leaky radiator. Plugged the hole well enough to leak less but wouldn’t hold pressure. Now I carry Steel Stik. Gray and black epoxy you can usually find a the parts counter. Do the prep and this stuff holds amazingly well. Fixed a POS Disco II Land Rover timing chain cover leak. One of those temporary fixes that become permanent.

Same stuff i used, but it doesn't have a long shelf life.
If you have it in a tool bag for Justin Case, chances are it will be rock hard when you need it
Vacuum seal it and it will hold up much longer, just a thought.

20+ years ago when I bought my 93 I bought a new OEM brass radiator from Cruiser Dan. It has always been great for me-- although I did also have John (@inkpot )and Kevin (ToolsRUs) set me up with a modded fan clutch somewhere down the line.

But I now also have a 97 LX450 that will probably need a radiator sometime soon. And I am not sure what I want to do now. And I have read many many threads. My gut reaction would be to buy the same OEM brass unit. But I always wonder why Toyota switched from brass to aluminum? Was is it really just to save weight? Or cost? Or is there some performance reason? So then maybe OEM aluminum.

But in my mind I can still hear Kevin making fun of me for considering spending extra money on OEM when he, John and all the guys at TRAL and Copper State Cruisers have had such good experiences with TYC radiators.

So I should probably just go with that-- but in the meantime, I will think about it some more.

If they can achieve the same performance with a cheaper, ligher material, then if course that's what will prevail in the industry.

Is crusty old buggers who hold onto the copper/brass is better idea coz that's what my 1963 chebby had, and it never over heated

The 1963 chebby was probably lucky to produce 1/2 - 3/4hp per cubic inch, had zero electrical accessories to power, no AC, no power steering to drive and weighed a lot less than a cruiser. ( not that power/ cubic inch is much better in an 80series  )
So way less heat load in general

Number #1 80 heat mod IMO
Blue hub 30,000

I have been running blue fan clutch with fluid upgraded to 30K for 2 years now with no issues. 30K fluid was sourced from ebay. Can confirm.

Long ago I had mentioned adding adhesive weather strip to the fan shroud to seal it against the radiator and aid in air flow through the coils.
I have been doing a bunch of catch up maintenance to prepare for the Rubithon next month, so today was belts, hoses, thermostat, coolant, assorted other things, and some more things.
Anyway, here is a picture of the fan shroud after cleaning it up and adding new foam.
Pay no attention to the broken top tabs and the transfer case hiding in the back.
