Running cooler thermostat than OEM

I am running a brand new oem thermostat but my cruiser has been running pretty hot lately. I know the OEM is 180 degrees but anyone know where I can find an aftermarket that works at 170? I realize it could be something else but I do want to start with the thermostat.

if your thermostat is the problem, installing a 170 degree unit isn't going to help any more than swapping with another 180 degree unit.

I always test my thermostats even new ones
Simple pot of water and a thermometer and see what temp it's fully opened at
And if it opens smoothly one that's jerky will probably stick

Ah perfect. So they do exist! I am going to test mine soon and see how it's behaving. Will keep you posted, Mark.

Also, i will be installing the new distributor in few days. Will probably call to pick your brain.
