Love the Pig, Brian! I am diligently working at aquiring my second 40 (my father-in-laws (RIP) '73 that was given to another family member at his passing, but it is sitting undriven for over a year in the driveway...yikes!), but a 55 is definitely in the books for the future. I absolutely love them. The olive drab is awesome....makes it look like a friggin tank.

Vedauwoo Wyoming? What do you do/where do you go out there? You can pm me, I'd be interested in doing more exploring out in that area, and if there's though obstacles/trails/good winter runs that would be a fun trip! Great looking piggie, man I want one even more now!

I spent a lot of time in Veedauwoo from 1996 until 2003 driving most of the trails (unfortunately some of now are closed, some are now on private property  ) and climbing. There is a powerful enough draw for me that I've thought about going back to Laramie for my masters degree.

Unfortunately, I won't be around Veedawoo for a while. :frown: There's others in the area though; I know Minipig wouldn't mind getting up there and Rescue Wagon is in Cheyenne as well.

Check this out: http://www.wyomingtalesandtrails.com/sherman.html There's a few old ghost towns up there (not much at all left really) but not too far from Veedauwoo was the Dale Creek Trestle, the tallest timber bridge on the Union Pacific. Only the foundations remain today, but it would have been a sight to see. Next time I'm home I want to check this thing out:

Next time I'm in the area though it would be awesome to hook up with the CO/WY club.

Horsehead- if you can get portals for $50 go for it. :flipoff2:

Nice rig and a great story

I'm with ya in a lot of ways... rockcrawlin no, preservation, restoration, long distance get the f!ck outta Dodge and into the middle of nowhere, yes...

Great truck man, great truck.

Wow! Never would have thought, I'll have to check into that some more 'cause that's such a great area anyway!

Hi All:

Brian, I remember following your portalaxle thread on the LCML a few years ago. The photos are awesome!

I can relate to your feelings about the truck; there has become such an "arms race" in off-roading over the last 10-15 years that "stockish" rigs have a hard time running the more serious trails! I'm "sitting on the fence" with the mods I've done on my FJ40; it will 'wheel but is definitely not "hard core" by today's standards!

Best wishes with your "pig evolution!"

Regards,

Alan

Nice rigs and write up. I really like the journey as well. You're 55's are awesome... my 55 will never be THE rockcrawler so I share the same evolutionary path. Too much sheet metal and body, etc. or eventually the doors will be smashed shut trying to follow buggies, 40's, mini's. I still wheel hard just not the hardest;)

My cruisers end up as camping, backpacking, paddling, mobile dog kennel, trail riders anyway, even if rockcrawler is/was the original goal... the reality for me is to get to the trail and home from the trail and use the cruiser more frequently and less intensely than less frequently and more intensely.

very cool brian.. I have loved being informed on the constant progrssion of the different machines here over the years from one diesel pig lover to another!

RUSH55- To give credit where credit due, TreerootCO did the chops. It's still a project I might undertake, but not for the next five years or so.

To everyone else, thanks for the comments! Cruisers like the ones I've had over the years have come around because of the likes of the LCML, Pirate4x4, and Ih8mud! Owning a Land Cruiser is being a part of a community, and I appreciate the fellowship and knowledge I have received over the years.

Brian you rule man.. I hope life is good man.. Looking back, I though it was a turning point, I was glad to have been there for the 'decisive dent' :)

Ahh those were the days. Brians pig was so cool!

And now I have a 70. The 70 series is like pig evolution. A new formulation in the 80's, New Pig, much like new coke...only not s***ty.

We have to get our Pigs together for a photo op!
