Rolled the cruiser, let the fun begin!

Most of you guys don't realize that Truckee gets on average 300" of snow a year and usually the coldest spot in America for most days of the winter.

"daily Driver" without a top isn't an option.

you just got yourself one dedicated topless Rubicon wagon dude.

and possibly the last of your get out of jail free cards.
Not to mention the whole tread lightly issue especially in a sensitive water reservoir....

Go see the trail crew down at Squaw or alpine, those guys will have that chopped up in a hurry for a case of beer. While yer at it, check the job boards and find a roomate, I have a feeling your dad is going to have a sit down talk with you soon.

Mine would've said to pack my bags and move into the cruiser, you need to give mad props to your family for being cool on this one for you and your friends.

Call J&M concrete pumping, my bro runs the crew. He needs someone to haul 3" concrete filled tubes up and down Donner all day long, you look like a guy that could use the money and workout.

Wanna sell the lockers?

Best advise I could give (bein a 13 year flatground turtle club member in a taco)....dont do anything for a week or two if the insurance company will let you wait that long...Was the vehicle paid off? If not, the balance of the loan will be paid off out of any settlement before you see a dime. Sit there and stare at the damage while youre healing up (are you medicated due to injuries???I was ready to buy my 4 month old rolled taco, and rebuild it......I was whacked out on pain meds and still had concussion issues)....

What would your timeframe be to get back on the road? You'll want to fix it right, not have to fix it over...That takes time, and/or money.

If you live in a 4 season climate, then a chopped top might not be the best DD. Plan on having to get a DD to put around in while doing all of this work, and to drive when the weather isnt tolerable. Having had a convertible pickup in the past, it gets old in a hurry when youre gettin wet...

Where is the vehicle located? If its at a storage lot, chances are they are charging the insurance company a daily fee for keeping it there. Hopefully its at your house, where it wont cost you anything per day.

Get a notebook and document every possible damaged part. Write out every conceivable item that would have to be touched, repaired, removed or replaced. First those out of necessity, then those out of "id like to do this....." See how long that list is, factor in your job situation (free time to work on cruiser), and see if its even feasible to attempt.

Check past for sale posts to get a guage on market value/return on sellin parts you dont need. Would you need AC if you go topless? could you sell 3 rows of seats to buy 2-4 performance seats? Sell the seatbelts and use that money to offset 5 point harneses.....Get creative Power windows/motors, glass, switches, door panels...Even the carpet/trim etc has value to someone.

Would having a half torn apart vehicle (whether rebuilding or parting out) sitting in the yard cheese off your parents? Home Owners Association? Most HOA's have bylaws about inop vehicles bein prohibited from bein seen or sitting out too long.

If you take on alot of the work yourself, make sure youre current on a tetanus shot.

If youre serious about keeping it, spend the $ out of pocket and get it put on a frame machine to see if it was tweaked. If you chop the top, then spend the bulk of your money letting someone who knows what they are doing build you a cage. Use only an established racecar, offroad racing shop, or 4wd fab shop. Overkill is not a problem here... It's already been on its roof once, and it has a chance of bein back on its lid again. Have them incorporate mounts for 4-5 point harneses for at least the front two passengers, front two rows if you still want to haul peeps. Door bars would help reinforce the cage, and give you a way to mount half doors. With no B/C pillars on the roofline, you have no way for the factory 3 point seat belts to work. Two point belts are pretty much useless, specially if they are the 3pts just doubled up across your lap

Also, if you buy it back, you can forget any kind of resale value. It will have a salvage title, a ton of body work (if fixed) and a possibly bent frame. You'll most likely be the last owner of the vehicle(good, bad, or indifferent).

Make your best guesstimate on how much it will cost to repair/modify to your liking, then add a 0 in front of the decimal point.

If youre a handy guy, then learn to make molds of the lower halves of the doors and make half doors out of fiberglass. There may be a market for that on here.

Good Luck with whatever you do with it. Glad youre OK, and that everyone else in the truck was OK. That's the main thing.

Oh yeah, Buy your Mom some serious flowers, Gray hair covering hair color, and some blood pressure medicine

that is what me the most angry about the whole thing. the "younggun" ripping up tahoe!

please move this to chat so we can really get into that.:D

Ripping up tahoe? Don't even start, its on a lake bed that is extremely traveled by vehicles. I only wheel on trails, never trail blaze. Boca and the Prosor Pits OHV area are the only place I wheel with speed.

And the ones really "ripping up tahoe" are the tourists. Bastards take their quads and dirtbikes on single track mountain bike trail. Its pretty ridiculous for a tourist to call a local bad for the environment.

Whad eye say? Whad eye say?

nothing. You quoted and added nothing to the germane discussion, so I just deleted the whole post rather than just delete the quote.

Shouldn't it be "added nothing germane to the discussion"?

But, like skillet, I too took germane in high school as well.:flipoff2:

It's a good thing Gumby teaches shop where they can have germane discussions about German cars.

Scheissekopf's rule.

A serious question for Jason. So let's say the insurance pays off, won't they be paying your parents? And if so, how does that help you? Have you asked for an insurance quote for you for say the next 5 years?

Thanks for all your replies, be them nice or cruel.

I added oil today and started the engine. It held a steady idle, but pored out white smoke. I expected this, but when will it stop? Is it oil in the exhaust system or from the engine?

I'd leave it alone until everything settles down.

If it's totaled make sure you get your stuff out of it. That would be any after market add ons and such and then go out and get another one.

Once you have the new one take the time to realize the gift you just received of a second chance and then make the most of it.

Baran, do you watch the news? Same rule applies here ;p

Come back in 6 months then, if I even decide to do it. This thread has ridiculous views, its almost turning into chat. Almost considering deleting it. I don't think I can though, seeing as I don't have a star.

Jason,

You could get a star....
It does not take much.
