Rolled the cruiser, let the fun begin!

Jason,
looks like this really sucked! :frown: If you can get 11K from insurance that will cover a new to you 80 and you will now know what not to do. You might even come out ahead if you can find one for say 8K and put 3k into baselineing and some mods. if you can buy back the totaled 80 for $800 then you will also have a truck to part out here on MUD. Seems you already have some intrest in some things...so if you can part it out for some extra funds you will have that income to put into even more mods. you could end up have a very nice rig that you hopefully will not try to drift again.:)

FJason, If this all pulls out you'll have found one of the few remaining guardian angels. Let go of your old 80 like a horse with a broken leg. If you do buy it back...part that sucker out and earn yourself more money towards a "New to YOU" 80 that a) hasn't been rolled b) needs baselining and c) hasn't been rolled.

PS - Change insurance companies after you get the check. As long as there wasn't a police report filed you shouldn't have anything another company could call you out on right?

Daddy's a lawyer! Well your insurance company may pay for this one accident but I bet you are "toast" as a policyholder with them in the future. Save your 11k for future premiums to be able to just afford driving something ......a corolla perhaps?

I'm thinking I'll be able to pay insurance, I now have a good job waiting and another one doing construction. With two jobs, I should accumulate enough to last me through the school year. Thanks for your concerns though... even if you did coat them in a****** sauce.

Don't be pissy. That guy's just a little irritable because he trashed his 40 series doing donuts in the Dunkin Donuts parking lot.

Wicked Pissah!

Can I really make that much $$ parting it out? I'm concerned it won't even be worth it. If I do buy another car it will likely be a samurai or something cheaper to maintain. That's why I don't want to part with my current cruiser. I don't know though, I have a lot of thinking to do in the next few days.

Oh by the way, pulled the spark plugs, cranked her a few times, added oil and she started up beautifully! I felt like that Top Gear video. Only it wasn't a 70 story building.

I bet you could get a decent amount for things like rear hatch doors, interior panels, dash cluster and things like that not to mention the engine. you could learn a lot if you had the time and tools to dissasemble it and part it out. I would just start pulling parts. boxing them up and setting them aside if you have space, if not pull them as requested.

Think of this as your learning 80 and your next one as your baby...again NO DRIFTING ;)

Edit: If you get $11K from this and only have to put $800 into buying back that is a great deal, to me anyway. I would love to have an 80 just sitting there that I really did not care about, just to be able to tear into and learn everything I can. not to mention the added benifits of being able to sell some parts from it.

cruiser

BHMcruiser has a point take the cash and buy another cruiser. Now what junk yard did you say your old cruiser is in?

Take the money and buy something that "drifts" better, save the 80s for wheeling.
The second vehicle in my sig is what you needed for drifting in the dirt. Rally baby!! It doesnt have the rally wheels here but still looks damn sexy for only 1k ever brought here in the USA. this is #847

Bummer

If you get $11K for the wreck and buy it back for under $1000, buy another Cruiser and keep this one for a parts truck. Whatever you do, fixing this one is a tricky proposition. See, fixing rollover damage is tough. It is dang near impossible to straighten out a roof from a rollover. They just don't go back the way they were, if the body of the truck got twisted in roll, then it is a frame up repair that is extremely time consuming and labor intensive. If the roof is replaced it has to be cut off and welded back together. That is a LOT of metal held to the truck with just a few little welds. Scary, and in the even of another rollover (like out on the hwy and some a-hole cuts you off and carnage ensues) and then it really scary. Not something I would recommend from a safety perspective.
Ultimately, if you fix this truck, I think that you spend a ton of money getting it repaired and never be happy with the truck afterwords. Will the doors ever close and seal right again? Windows roll up and down? Don't misunderstand me, it CAN be done, but this a much bigger job than you may think. What ever you decide, I wish you the best.

easy solution
1.get your money from the ins. company
2.buy the vehicle back for no more than $3k
3.buy yourself a daily driver with some of the cash
4.cut the roof and have a cage built with a soft top
problem solved. You have a daily driver and a wheelin rig for no money out of pocket.

We have a winner!

Dead on my advice as well. This cruiser is gone. Buy it back to either part out or keep for spares. Use the remaining cash to purchase a new car/ truck and a dozen roses for your mother.

The tires and sliders are easily worth the $800 and will swap over very easily as well. You can part out the small interior pieces that people seem to be vulturing over right now, keep the major stuff like the axles. You could even sell the motor/trans if you felt like it.

When you part it out, don't forget to siphon the gas out of the tank, no sence in wasting that stuff!

My bad

My comments that were deleted above went over the line.
You won't catch me drifiting 5400 lbs of pig anytime soon, but to each his (or his parents) own.
I don't take well so spoiled punks, regardless of the forum they frequent. Yeah...SUXJA booted me, after it was overrun with boy scouts. Who needs a unibody anyway?
Moving on...I would buy that pig back from the INS. CO. in a hot second. Chop the frame, boatside the rockers, and generally go nuts.
Hell, on a $1000 donor rig, buy yourself a welder and learn a craft.
Good luck, and death to the infidels.

As you get older, the lessions unlearned get more and more expensive.

I don't think anyone here needs to tell Jason that what he did was stupid. I'm guessing he figured that out shortly after he noticed he was inverted, and I'm sure his parents are continously reminding him.

I'm glad he posted this. We all need to remember that when fun turns to stupid, our vehicles tend to flip. I'm less likely to roll mine now than I was before I read this thread.

Bummer on the dead LC.....

T.
