Rolled the cruiser, let the fun begin!

This thread has ridiculous views, its almost turning into chat. Almost considering deleting it. I don't think I can though, seeing as I don't have a star.

Ridiculous views or not, there are good elements to it. Good wishes and some sound advise.

Perhaps some other 80 owner will read this thread and think twice about drifting their lifted 4x4 and even save a life or two.

Besides, even with a star, you cannot delete threads here, for good reason.

Chat is the only place where you can delete threads, for good reason.

:D

UPDATE:

I decided that its not worth paying the insurance company 2,500 for the cruiser. With the money that they DO give me, upwards of 10k, I've decided to buy an old subaru for less than 2k. That will leave me a good chunk that I've decided to spend on a 40 series.

I am not abandoning you, loyal 80 crowd, and I hope to someday own an 80 series again.

BTW I am selling the Metal Tech Sliders:

Took them off today.

Dude what are you nuts? Buy It back! That is a good deal. The 80 is worth it! I rolled my 96 and bought mine back for 4k. I couldn't let them take it. I had to much into it. So don't let your insurance co take yours!

My buddy rolled his '93 4Runner, ended up getting a check from insurance, and buying an '88 Cruiser. Bad trade?

Too bad that happened. It's good that you weren't seriously hurt.

I used to have a fat afro.... Like that guy in the picture. I'm not sure if that's you.

It just is inconvenient. There is no way I could do what I want to do to it and keep it street legal. It would have to be a trail only rig. Aside from that, I'm screwed on insurance for 4 years, and the insurance company wouldn't insure it.

It definitely hurts, but I have decided to part (not part out) with it.

Like I said, I'll take the interior fuse panel cover.

Thanks.

Are you still in college, or are you out in the working world?

If college - keep on your course, you need to stay focused until graduation, and any serious detractors to your time will cost you parts of your future. Plus, if you are off at college the last thing your parents want left at home is a daily reminder of one of your "less than stellar" moments.

If you are out on your own, working, etc. - Buy it back, make the windshield completely sealable with new glass, fake the rest and keep running this thing.

The economics of buying & selling cars sucks, and like a close family friend once said "There's no such thing as a good car deal" (He's 50, easily worth a few million in cash without assets, and he still DD's an early 70's Ford 4x4 - gets the best of care)
The amount of cash Uncle Sam takes on all purchases just adds up. I'd run this truck square into the dirt, economically speaking.

You now have the most killer vehicle you can get - a good, solid, reliable drivetrain to get you where you want to go, but so ugly you could dang near leave the keys in it and not worry about getting ripped off. I'd kill for a rig like that to run around in Seattle.

Try highschool. Senior year.

So let me get this straight. You wrecked your and your insurance co. is writing you a check for ~$10k? With that $$ you plan to buy a Scooby and drop the rest of the $$ in a 40 you have yet to purchase. Dude, I love 40's but to find a clean one you'll be happy with you'll be spending nearly the remainder of the $7500 doing so.

Here is what I did with my Chevy truck when it was totaled (sorta). I wanted the truck and they offered it to me for $500, the insurance co. cut me a check for the $6k minus the $500 ($5500 for the non-math types) and I dropped the $5500 into the purchase of my 80. So in your case buy your 80 back, get a check for ~$7500, buy a Scooby to drive to school and work and fix the bear minimum and wheel the 80 as is.

Unless the folks are paying for your insurance you're screwed on insurance anyway for the next five years so you might as well deal with it. Have fun if you can.

One other option is buy the Scooby and drink the rest when you go away to school. Talk to Mickey and he'll set you straight.

Same reason people watch NASCAR...

Hey I resent that! :DMy good friend I grew up with in small town Kansas races. The best car too....Jack Daniels!!

Don't be stupid! Buy it back! You will regret it if you don't!

But Jason is a high school senior. He is dependent on his parents for food, shelter, cash, insurance, and basically everything in his life. He needs transportation, not some never ending money pit project like a rolled 80 or a rusty 40.

Take the $10k. Use $5k to buy a decent commuter car like a subaru. Use the additional $5k to help pay your insurance for the next couple of years. Seriously, this is a time in life to learn your lessons and take your lumps. You need very deep pockets to play seriously in the Land Cruiser game. That will have to wait.

Drew, Rain on the parade why don't you. You do have a very valid point though for a kid about to go to university. Note: See what happens when you become a responsible adult. ;)

If you're not up to living by the seat of your pants on your way through school consider this compromise. Let the insurance co. keep the 80 and take the $$ and buy a used Taco or low mileage mini truck with a 4cyl. You'll have better mpg yet still will be able to get out in the dirt and satisfy your craving. It's a fair compromise and you'll have a project truck after graduation. Is that a more responsible approach?:D

here's how I figure it. you're lucky you didn't hurt yourself or kill any one of your friends in your cruiser. some people have a greater appreciation for the vehicles they drive, and some have more talent at driving them than others do too. it seems to me that your talent ran out when you decided to go show off and play around with your friends. then again, no one was killed or injured badly, so lesson learned. ;)
as far as buying back the 80, I myself would probably make the purchase and take the rest to go out and buy another 80 that will be a DD. but I've also owned every one of the vehicle that I've driven, modified, and bastardized. I was able to do whatever I wanted to at no cost to anyone other than myself. so... you're lucky that you have very able parents that probably gave you the cruiser and all of the accessories. on that note, I can understand why your parents may actually be influencing the decision to total the cruiser and let the insurance company have it.

so what you should do, is find out what the Insurance company is going to do with it and when they are planning on having it go to auction. you should tell your fellow mudders and make it available to someone who can afford to make it a DD or a strictly of road rig.

good luck with your future vehicles, and I'm sure you'll take this and appreciate more of what is given to you now. remember there are less fortunate people out there than your self that probably would have made that cruiser last much longer.

:cheers::beer:
