Buy a couple of packs of cheap paper towels, and a big tub of hand cleaner. Nitrile gloves. Big cardboard box with triple layer trash bag liner. Big cans of brake clean.

You obviously haven't looked inside the heater blower

FWIW, I stopped buying pressureized cans of fluid when I bought a pressurized can:

Bulk fluids are considerably cheaper than the low volume pressurized cans, which are only about 20% fluid, by volume, anyway. And, unlike the pressurized cans, you can actually get every drop of fluid out of the container.

Keep in mind, all of those shown are 54mm sockets which will not work for the 50mm nuts found on a drum brake axle.

You need a 50mm specific socket:

We are working on a FA60010K kit that will include the following:
2 x Spindle Nut - Spindle Nut - Fits 1958 - 9/1975 4x/5x Series With Drum Brakes (FA60010)
1 x Spindle Lock Washer - Spindle Lock Washer - Fits 1958 - 9/1975 4x/5x Series With Drum Brakes (FA38020)
1 x Spindle Thrust Washer - Spindle Thrust Washer - Fits 1958 - 9/1975 4x/5x Series With Drum Brakes (FA38013) - https://cruiserteq.com/spindle-thrust-washer-fits-1958-9-1975-4x-5x-series-with-drum-brakes-fa38013/

You can order things individually on CruiserTeq.com or call and order (801-563-1277), we'll have the kit online today too.

Update, this is now avail on CruiserTeq.com

I already ordered them all earlier today. I should put this thing on Youtube and maybe those pros will come help me like they did Project Wrongway.
You got this cake walk !

Found this in the glove box. Anyone know exactly what this thing is? Box doesn't say exactly from what I have seen so far but I assume it has something to do maybe with the distributor?

Anyone know if there is a company that sells new charcoal canisters for the 70's models? I'm going to try to use the canister I have not sure how much good it will do. Anyone know if messing with this thing is even worth it? Looks like it might help with the gas guzzling a bit.

I find these very interesting. First the price $2.96 😳 they have to be pretty old 😂
At that price I was thinking they must be China junk but bottom right hand corner it says product of Japan.
OK maybe not so bad.
Then I noticed the import company was in Chatsworth California my old stomping grounds growing up. 😎

Just wanted to provide the hose sizes for the Nippondenso Air Cleaner in case anyone else couldn't find them. The big one is 25mm and the little one is 18mm. I read somewhere else on here it's best to use silicone hoses so that's what I got. Nice snug fit but I'm still using hose clamps to be safe.

Letter C looks like someone filed off the key on the inner diameter. The spindle nut with the Allen key set-screws looks homemade / modified - there isn't a regular interval on the bolt-pattern for these five set-screws. Mystery appearance remains uncertain.

I'd get a new outer nut, and star-washer / locking tab, and just build it how it is in the manual. It was probably to get around not having the jumbo socket to turn the spindle nuts? (From the knuckle to the outside: D,B,C,A?)
Forgot to mention the mystery appearance lol. That's from the compound they put in the sand blaster up at the metal shop. I don't have a sand blaster and I just forgot to take the washers out of the box when I hauled it up there. I think it's aluminum oxide if I remember correctly. It leaves a gritty feeling surface behind. I will not be using these at all now. I'm just using the new stuff I bought from Cruiser Outfitters and doing it as per the manual.

FWIW, you can get cotton braided/plain OE looking rubber hose for those lines in metric instead of silicone. Usually VW parts places have it in stock or Belmetric is a good source too.

Anyone know if there is a grease gun attachment for this hole? I was going to try to hook my grease gun up to the Birf. Please tell me if this is a bad idea. I did put plenty of grease in there but I figured this would pack it. I have not put the back seals on yet, so I figured it would ooze out the back once it's full. It's some type of square head plug.

You could D&T that plug to accept a grease nipple. IMHO bad idea, what ever you can pack in there is enough - push in more then its going into the brake or differential

A better idea would be to just stick the grease gun nipple in the hole. It should only by 3/4 full anyway.

^^^^ this
If your doing a rebuild then you don’t need to use that hole.

Ibthink at some point, you'll likely force grease down the spindle into the lockout and thru other weak seals. Sounds like a mess.
