I finally got a break in the weather. Still undecided between paint or powder for the bumper. Decided to try paint. Painted with SEM self etching primer and SEM ProMax semigloss. I was curious how the semi looked and plan on using it for axles and other pieces.

I had to redo the oil pan install. When we flipped the engine over last time I heard something hit the bottom of the pan. I tried to vacuum it out and use a magnet but couldn't get it to move so we had to remove the pan. It turns out that it was a bolt that is not an engine bolt but definatley toyota. I replaced the gasket again and used new oil pan bolts torqued to 85 INCH POUNDS.

Not sure if it is the same in your case but I figured out the hard way that the arrow on the OME leaf springs should point to the fixed mount vs. the shackle. Instructions would've been nice however the "Cadillac" of lift kits apparently expects their buyers to have to research it online in forums and at retailers FAQ to figure it out.

Thank you I will check it out. I assumed that the arrow pointed towards the front of the vehicle.

Yeah sucks - seems to me the arrow pointing forward makes perfect sense to me too. We even called the OME tech support number and they said the same. Needless to say my friend and I were not happy. But at least the second time doing it was easier... Also, look for one with a "+" on it as that goes on the driver's side.

I found the same info you did "after" of course. Glad I could help. You would've figured it out when he drive shaft came up short... But at least some work was saved. :)

When I finished up in the garage last night it looked like the pin was to far forward.

I haven't used OME's on a 40 in more than 15 years so maybe I'm just not used to them but they look short for a lift spring. Is it possible they perches are moved. I know this has a shackle reversal but the distance between pins is still the same. This is a "2 1/2" lift spring too.
By the shackle angle on your the droop potential is almost used up. Maybe it could use a little longer shackle?

Thanks for the heads up. In the picture above I have the spring on backwards. I will flip it and repost pictures.

@lcwizard and @ginmtb

Does this look better? Lcwizard, when I put weight on the spring, the shackle pivots towards the rear of the truck.

Ginmtb, if you get a chance, can you snap a pic of the spring pin locating bolts where they come through the frame? Thanks in advance.

JDC, the orientation of springs/shackles/pins looks good now.
Tip: Consider removing one full-length leaf from the pack before final assembly. The OME packs are plenty stiff, even with a leaf or 2 removed.
Tip2: Replace the missing bumpstops now, while its easy to access & rethread the mounting holes.

Thanks for the input Jim.

it is so much easier to work on the chassis w/o the body and drivetrain installed. We are in the process of installing a blast cabinet and compressor. I have a bunch of small items to clean up before I go any further. With 3 small kids, soccer, tball and school, I am lucky to get a few hours a week on the 40.

I ordered the heavy springs so that I could fine tune the packs. With a winch up front and possibly a swing out in the rear, I wasn't sure if the mediums would be enough.

Moving/leaning toward a 2 1/2 OME upgrade also. Will you be running a Hard Top with your swing-out later? Trying to gauge my own course of action. I'll stay posted to see how you like the HD's!

I will be running a hardtop. I ordered the heavies so I could start from the top w/o having to add later. I was having a hard time between the alcans and ome. My dad has ome mediums on his 60 and after they settled in ride great.

Chungas, you might recognize my avatar pic. We camped at spruce knob last August. What a beautiful place.

Thought it looked familiar but could not put my finger on it!! Done some trout fishing down in that neck of the woods.

I am in the same boat REF: Springs. I go back and forth between the "Hell Creek" and the "OME". When I hunt I am using a roof rack and pack Ole' Zig to the gills.

That is OME Installation gold "ginmtb"!

my 2CTS... No offense to the V-8 crowd intended, I understand the need for HP and spin'en 35's, but I am glad to see you converting back to a Toyota power plant. Something to be said for that sewing machine valve noise, red-lining at 3500ish and cruising at warp speed (57mph) on a downhill grade with a tail wind (I hit 65mph with my 3:70's):) .....Sometimes ya just gotta' dance with what ya brung ;).

I'm sorry I just saw this - I will try to do that this weekend.
