I pulled the head on my '85 2F with 275,000 miles to trouble shoot the source of my burning AF symptoms. I expected to find a cracked head, BUT no visible cracks, gasket is shot and valve job is needed at least. Lots of AF in the cylinders but no rust or severe damage to cylinders that I can see. Drained oil and got a bunch more AF out which leads me to believe that my lower end needs inspection at the least and rebuilt probably called for given the mileage.

I'm considering rebuild options for the long block. Does anyone here have an engine rebuilder in the Boise ID vicinity that they would like to recommend? I have spoken with Robbie Antonson in Boulder, CO and got some good advice and rough estimate. Also spoke with Ted at Portland Engine Rebuilders | Portland Oregon Automotive Machine Shop today and got price ranges for his shop. I am looking for any other options, local if possible so I can save a few $ on shipping and meet and discuss rebuild options in person. If anyone here has had good personal experience please let me know. Thanks, Jay

Moffitt and Bratton in Boise is very good but they are fairly expensive. I would use them. Joe's Motor Machine is supposed to be good too. I've never used them but I know some Toyota pickup/4Runner guys that have had work done there and they've been happy.

Brent Tucker at Import Engine Supply is who I used on my 3B. He doesn't shy away from Toyotas. He just did a friend's 1FZ head and has had fully rebuilt 2F's on the shelf as well.

His shop is in Garden City off 32nd.
