if a tree falls in the forest and nobody is around to hear it, does it make any noise?
Nobody will ever know, how could they know?

Got the AVNW 4BT frame side engine mount in, it comes with a nice little plate that makes it very easy to line up for tacking in place.

Have to figure out what this hole is for. It seems very similar to the valve cover blow by drain on a common rail Cummins, but I have seen anything like it on a 12v before.

Digging around for Cummins bolts I found an old Bosch injection pump governor spring. Looks like they are saying “no suits” to me.

Wow that hobble motor mount looks like JC Whitney stuff 😳

The VC can be removed anytime you want. The VC and the center differential are not related and reside in separated sections of the transfer case. Part time kits come with a spool for a reason. If you install manual hubs in place of the drive plates, you will not be able to motivate down the road unless the "center diff lock" is engaged all the time.

I had a 94 and now a 93 in white. I prefer these years for no airbags, TOYOTA on the grill. the dash, the exhaust over the frame instead of under and the possibility of finding one with the "poverty package" which would be clothe interior, manual seats with no leather anywhere. This interior holds up much better over the years. The OBD2 of the newer 80's would be nice for forced induction though.

why a 4bt instead of something with some power?
I love my “Poverty Pack” ‘94. The cloth seats have held up so well over the trucks 275k miles. It’s genuinely impressive, though I know it’ll be a horrible pain to find this cloth material if the time ever comes to redo the driver seat.

Nice photo. My clothe Sears are in great shape as well, however, I installed grey canvas seat covers on the front seats to preserve them.

This little sumbiach was way more difficult to find than I was expecting. But now that I have it, brake system can finally be closed up to the master cylinder, as soon as the new brake lines for the axle show up.

Still plenty of stuff happening up around the MC too. I want to see how this works before changing anything.

Very nice set up.

Found myself with a "personal day" and decided to attack this project:

No matter how hard I tugged, this wouldn't come off...

IMG_1351.jpeg

impromptu puller worked just fine though

When getting to the steering column assembly I came across this mess. Does anyone know if this is the typical "port installed" alarm system?? Or is it a Best Buy "special" install?? Want to remove, but I think I'll wait until the Cummins starts up again and I can do a function check before unplugging anything.

"How to steal an 80 series 101". Not easy. Had to dig into FSM to understand process here. Extractors are required to get the steering wheel lock off and the replacement bolts are the kind that the head snaps off at a certain torque on reassembly.

Had to make a little adapter for the slide hammer to remove the tilt bolts, worked like a charm.

Old vs new. Not a lot of wear on the old one, simply cleaning and regreasing probably would've been an OK approach, but I got all the stuff so may as well use it.

IMG_1370.jpeg

All torn down, ready for an ultrasonic bath.

IMG_1376.jpeg

Out of the bath, painted up to keep surface rust at bay.

IMG_1380.jpeg

New plastic bushing on firewall end. The old one was kind of nasty and sticky.

IMG_1381.jpeg

The one part I didn't think to get, and they are kind of worn. Did a test assemble and decided it wasn't worth waiting for new ones (these are the tilt bolts that required a slide hammer to remove).

IMG_1383.jpeg

All back together and ready to go back into rig. Waiting on new ignition switch before putting it all back in though.

IMG_1386.jpeg

Now I just need to decide which steering I will install, the "new to me" leather one that is in great shape, or the brand new vinyl one for a "new OEM" steering system from wheel to wheels when all is said and done.

I have the OEM vinyl steering wheel and it looks fantastic even after 28 years of use.

@swankstar what did the OEM Tank set you back?
