John, is there clearance between the fully open hatch and the canoe with the spoiler removed? Any regrets?
The canoe gunwale clears the top of the hatch, completely. The stern contacts the middle of the hatch, when almost fully open, and without very much force. I plan to use a towel over the contact point but it shouldn't be a problem.

With the spoiler in place I was worried about either busting it, or my head. No regrets, none.

I'm headed out with the canoe this weekend, I will take pics and post them.

does anyone know where to get replacement nut inserts for the spoiler mounts? I removed my spoiler and was using the holes for mounting a 31" backup light bar. yes....if you can go big, go way big....

if you guys don't know a source....will try the handy dealer...

I removed my spoiler to allow the hatch to open with a canoe on the rack. I'm happy with the function, but the Lexus LX570 is a little bumpy/fugly under the spoiler. I was expecting a smooth/rounded profile like @John E Davies Land Cruiser, but no such luck. I'm sticking with the spoiler-less truck and it may be a good excuse to mount a giant light bar on the back to cover the scar.

I used stainless sealing washers, o-rings and silicone sealant to plug the holes.

That seems odd that they’d be different body panels under the spoiler. Maybe they’re different due to year rather than badge? I’m very tempted to remove mine so I can put my Alu-Cab awning on and be able to open the hatch with it deployed. Man, that’d mean a roof rack install as well. This will take some thought.

Thanks for bumping the thread @DRCocaCola can always count on the MUD guru's for good info and options. I need to remove mine as well to either repaint and install, or remove it for good my clear coat is peeling on the top of it. The good part is its not really noticeable unless your on top loading the rack or cleaning. I'll make a judgement call when I get it off. I do like the idea of a skinny lightbar utilizing and hiding some of the holes and have some rear light when hooking up a trailer or setting up camp could be nice :hmm:

I’m thinking one of the holes may work well as a back up camera relocation spot. Now I just need to find some time...

Maybe the difference is having a powered versus a non-powered rear hatch. The LX570 has the powered hatch.

I had my favorite body shop remove the spoiler and clean up the paint underneath. It looks fine after buffing. They used black plastic plugs for the holes. They look a little raw but I think I will soon tune them out. Cost was only $80, with a low shop rate of $56 per hr.

Even with my rear canoe gunwale brackets shimmed upward 1.5 inches to tilt up the stern, there was no way I could get spoiler clearance. I was afraid of breaking the spoiler. I could not get my truck and canoe into the garage with the shimmed mounts raised. Now I should be able to remove the shims and get it in easily.

Before, shimmed rear mount lowered - 1/2 inch clearance with the garage door opening:

I will post another pic after my next canoe trip. I think there will be plenty of clearance , tho I may need to throw a towel over the lower part of the hatch which will probably lightly contact the pointed end of the canoe, when open.

BTW that is my new Yakima Showboat 66 loader in the last pics. It mounts under the round Yak bars and extends back over the hatch for easy loading. It just clears the sat antenna but I suspect it will block the signals sometimes. The downside is you can't use a fairing up front, but the wind noise isn't too bad. A deep roaring, no whistling, humming or woo-woo-wooing.

Finally, that is a 35 year old Wenonah Sundowner 17 flat water canoe up top. Nice boat, but at 70 pounds it is a bit porky.

Does anyone that removed their spoiler have any interest in selling theirs?

The previous owners removed mine with a garage door...

Would like to put one on. Its needed for the gobi ladder.

Send me a PM @TexAZ I may not put mine back on. I finally got around to removing it this past weekend and am taking it to a detail guy this afternoon to buff the area underneath where the spoiler was. If it cleans up to my satisfaction I may not put it back on. I'll say what a bear to remove it but the info here was very helpful. I'll say with all the bolts removed the double sided tape and clips held all 220lbs of my full body weight pulling on it I had to put plastic tools to pry it up and slowy cut away at the tape on both sides to get it off.

I know this is an old thread, but do you happen to have any photos of this 31” lightbar mounted?

I wouldn't mind seeing a photo of the complete side profile, sans spoiler. I hate those things.

The tlc has a normal sheet metal shape. it is sold with no spoiler in some trims. The lx570 has some odd asymmetric bulges and the glass edge is not inset.

Has anyone done this on a 2018+? Im curious what the body panel underneath looks like. I didn’t even know this was an option until looking at canoe mounting options to get around the spoiler interference issue… the spoiler makes carrying the canoe an utter PITA. I have some rigid lights mounted on the spoiler so I guess I’d mount those on whatever is underneath assuming routing the cables is easy enough.

I removed the spoiler on my 2018 model and it looks just like the pictures of the Land Cruiser spoiler earlier in this thread. I filled my holes with stainless steel Allen head bolts and rubber washers. I think it looks fine although my wife rolled her eyes when she looked at it :-).

Ok, this is starting to sound more and more like an avenue I might take. Tell me this, my spoiler has two rigid lights mounted to it… do you believe mounting to the no spoiler area would be doable? It would be really handy to feed the wires through those holes since it looks like there are some on either side.

Yes, you could do that.

I created a thread with a bunch of info and pictures when I had mine off: Rear Spoiler Removal Info - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/rear-spoiler-removal-info.1265397/post-14081608
