Is there a go to thread or step by step for rear spoiler removal? I cracked mine after opening the hatch in a low garage so I need to remove it.

It's in this build thread somewhere.

IPOR built 200

You will have a multiple holes on your back door. So you just need to either fill and paint them or put in a grommet of some kind.

I tried backing out of the garage with the lift gate up like I do with the 80 series and wow what a terrible sound I heard when the rear window sun shade met the garage door frame.:bang: Tried removing it with proper tools and manual but found it was attached with 10 feet of 3M trim and panel tape (double sided tape) in addition to the attach points. I still have not replaced it and may let some one else pull it.

The OEM air deflector/scoop/fin on my '94 80 series did a much better job of keeping the dust, dirty road spray off the back window. I never really had to use the rear wiper on the 80 but now in the 200 with a sun shade over the back window, it slows the air flow so every thing settles on the window.

Has any one seen any other options for the sun shade over the back window?

That rear spoiler does an excellent job ... of sucking dust ON TO the rear window

It might be a good design for reducing overall drag, but it sure DOES NOT keep the rear window clear.

I really want the spoiler off my new 2013 200. I have seen the pics of the earlier body style with it removed here .... IPOR built 200

Has anyone removed the spoiler from a 2013+ model? Any instructions, pics, or links? Any issues with plugging the holes and what is normally used? My truck is white so I would prefer white plugs.

Does Lcool have instructions? I applied for membership but have not been approved yet.

I carry a Wenonah canoe on top (on Yakima round bars) and the spoiler has got to go, it prevents you from carrying Anything long and flat that extends back over the hatch. It's stupidly designed if you want to use the rack for carrying a boat or lumber or a ladder....

There will be about 8 holes in the gate afterwards, if I remember correctly. Four for fasteners and four for clips.

- Pull off the trim on the upper tailgate on the inside. Only held by white tabs but they're strong.
- Two fasteners are viable, two are under rubber covers on the outside for the spoiler.
- There are four (I think) clips held in by white tabs. Good luck with these. I just had to yank horizontally until it popped out as it's impossible to get to two of the tabs. They may even break on the spoiler side.
- Find plugs and use some type of sealant for water avoidance.

Thanks for the comments, they were very helpful. I would probably have my favorite body shop remove it, they _probably_ have the know how and experience to remove it without damage.....

I sure would like to see a light colored 200 with the plugged holes. Any pics?

Thanks,

How about a red one with the spoiler forcibly removed.
The previous owners used a garage door to remove theirs . Then promptly traded it in on an Audi crossover. I'll snap a picture of the exterior clips tomorrow in the daylight

It's not difficult at all. My super white 2011 came without one and I put one on myself. Maybe total 45 minutes? If you've ever done simple trim work or interior removal, it'll be quick and easy. Important part is to get bolts in and 3M tape started but not completely removed. Once you tighten down bolts and it's aligned properly, remove remaining tape ribbon and press down firmly for about 30 seconds.

I had my favorite body shop remove the spoiler and clean up the paint underneath. It looks fine after buffing. They used black plastic plugs for the holes. They look a little raw but I think I will soon tune them out. Cost was only $80, with a low shop rate of $56 per hr.

Even with my rear canoe gunwale brackets shimmed upward 1.5 inches to tilt up the stern, there was no way I could get spoiler clearance. I was afraid of breaking the spoiler. I could not get my truck and canoe into the garage with the shimmed mounts raised. Now I should be able to remove the shims and get it in easily.

Before, shimmed rear mount lowered - 1/2 inch clearance with the garage door opening:

I will post another pic after my next canoe trip. I think there will be plenty of clearance , tho I may need to throw a towel over the lower part of the hatch which will probably lightly contact the pointed end of the canoe, when open.

BTW that is my new Yakima Showboat 66 loader in the last pics. It mounts under the round Yak bars and extends back over the hatch for easy loading. It just clears the sat antenna but I suspect it will block the signals sometimes. The downside is you can't use a fairing up front, but the wind noise isn't too bad. A deep roaring, no whistling, humming or woo-woo-wooing.

Finally, that is a 35 year old Wenonah Sundowner 17 flat water canoe up top. Nice boat, but at 70 pounds it is a bit porky.

You can probably get some oem type touch up paint and color the plugs. Just an idea.
It would work up until it got hit with a pressure washer..... white plugs are the answer, if I could locate some.

At $28 for two? I don't think so.....

John, is there clearance between the fully open hatch and the canoe with the spoiler removed? Any regrets?
