I went with the 5125s. It was recommended. I can't believe how bad the shocks I had were. I hope these ones will work out!

Orange45 suggested I go with the cooler and Pighead seconded that so pretty much it was a no brainer.

Got to the steering shaft to day. I would have had quite a time getting that solid shaft in. I am glad that there was the compressibility of the shaft.

Looks like all I need to do is get the pump mounted and run the hoses, and mount the steering dampner and then I will have realized a long long long term plan come to fruition:clap: I guess that I shouldn't get excited quite yet, but its hard not to!

Thanks for the compliments! I will hopefully get out and do some wheeling soon to see if I got it right. But first I've got to plumb the thing.

Was the Flaming River joint a direct fit to the splines on the steering wheel shaft splines? If so, what was the joint that you used (number/size).

Looking good!

Thanks. The Toyota side slid right on. Hope this helps.

I went with Flaming River- Scout box side measured 36 spline by 13/16(FR1719-3/4ddshaft), Toyota side 36spline by 11/16 (FR1783-3/4dd shaft), my distance from beginning of spline to beginning of spline was 17inches (3/4dd-22inches-FR1850-22).

I later changed the configuration to make for a slip shaft. I have a new number list from Flaming River- fr1758, fr1856, and fr1783. This is a slip shaft that is 3/4" inside 1" and the universal joints that are appropriate to match up.

lessons in patience

Wow!!! This powerstreering project has totally been a challenge:bang:! After two weeks of waiting the gentleman that I was going to fab up my hoses seems to have disappeared. I hope that he is okay.

Now I will go and get it done myself. I am wondering though- are the fittings all standard? If I tell the shop that I have a saginaw pump and a scout box will they know what the threads and size of the three different ports?

Does anyone have any know what the measurements are on those fitting ports? It looks like (I think what would be the low pressure) one of the ports is smaller than the other on the box, While the larger one on the box seems to be the same size as the port on the pump.

Any suggestions or beta on this the LAST THING THAT I HAVE TO DO before I get to ride in a cruizer with power steering!:steer:

Xtiaan,

I can't help, but I would think a good shop would know. If not, see if they let you borrow a few different fittings, to test fit.

scout hoses

Does anyone know which of these holes is the high pressure line and which is the low? One has tape in it and one has a hex plug.

I was to be the car for my buddies bachelor party but this project just won't end:crybaby: It turns out that making the hoses are not as easy as I had hoped. Maybe I am just making it harder than it needs to be.

I think he's using a Scout box, not the 60 series. It looks to me like the inner hole is the HP on the Scout from the fittings in this pic:

Pighead should be able to confirm since this is his rig ;)

**Edit - every picture I could find had the crimped high-pressure fitting on the inside and the clamped low-pressure on the outside***

Thanks guys! I am in trouble then because one post says inside for high pressure while the other says outside. I am thinking that because pighead has the high pressure on the inside (the same box as I have) I am going to lean to the high pressure on a Scout box being inboard.

That sounds right...right?

DONE

Finally! got some hoses!!!
Hooked it all up and got it balanced, aligned, rotated.
And drove in a parking lot, freeway, in another parking lot, parallel parked it, drove in another parking lot.:steer:

No driving pics. Before work tomorrow I am going to mellow 4wheel it up the street from me, and then I'll post a driving pic. I guess that I can't say it is done until it gets at least a little dust on it!:D

Which crank groove does the PS pump belt ride in with the Orangefj45 bracket? How do you like the line-up and stability of the pump while the engine is running; ie> do you think there's much chance of wobbling around much? ThanX
