I have two grooves on the crank and it lined up best with the inside one. It seems like there could be more of a bracket to hold the pump. It works just fine, but would be nice to have the pump a little more solid.

Some mellow messin around. There is a little touch with the driver side shock and the box, when I try to bury the front drivers tire, but I don't think that it will be a problem. 
you're already on a 60 series front axle, right? would some 1/4 or 3/8" spacer help the rubbage? I have always thought that some old-too-thin-to-use rotors could be best used to make 3/8" spacer from...I salute you

I am leaving tomorow for a 6 day route on El Capitan. Well, maybe just 5 days, if we aren't too fat and scared
That should take the place of that steering work out that I was getting.
I have 62 knuckles out with spacers to clear the forerunner calipers. I have spacers but still the touch comes in with the shock tube hitting the box. With the front tire buried in the fender it just barely touches. I really don't know how I could fix it but by cutting and repositioning the shock bracket. Not going there

Just this moment got a call from my partner. He is getting stress from the folks and his girlfriend to get a job!!! He just got his masters in business. It seems that he is best served right now to go and get on a wall. He gets a job now and it will be two weeks a year to go and get adventure like this, and we all know what the chances are then to get some.
What have you all been doing for the rear stabilizer brackets. I keep braking those little clam shell brakets that hold the bar!

I went on an adventure for the last 10 days and just got back. Oh my God!!!! What a scene. I was on the side of EL Capitan for 8days. One of the days we were stuck in our portaledges in a blizzard. I felt like I was on a Nat Geo Show. I hopefully have some cool pics that I will share as soon as I get to them.
I started driving the cruiser around and had been before I left on my trip. I was about 20 mins away from my house and the thing boiled over and I think that I blew my head gasket!!!!! I have replaced the head gasket over the 15 or so years that I have owned this thing- twice myself and once by a mechanic. The last time I put a new head on the thing! What the heck!
Do you think that there is any correlation between the steering system and the head gasket.
Maybe i should just shine this engine once and for all and put in something that is less stin ky and more reliable.

Glad you made it down. Sounds like one heck of a trip.
Head gasket: Have you used OEM gaskets, I thought some were having trouble with aftermarket? Sounds like something else is going on, also.

Yea it is weird. It ran great before I left with no overheating worries going on. It was a wham! how you like me now kind of thing. not happy at all with my cruiser now. I don't mind a new problem, but a recurring problem does not suit me at all, especially one like a blown head gasket.

ever re=torque the head after changing gaskets? how many times? did you yank the rocker shaft to get the bolt in the middle? did you chase the bolt threads in the block? maybe time for new bolts...

I'd have to agree that 3-4 HG jobs on a 2F is not normal, something is going on with that engine. Have you replaced the head at any point or just had resurfaced? Valves? I'd say one HG job every 20-30 years is more typical, and then only if it overheats or sits ...

he stated that the head was replaced last go round. temp could be a contributing factor...has the block been flat milled? if the discrepency is on the blocks surface, no amount of head work is going to solve it. there is a spec for how much warpage is acceptable... .002 maybe?

Can not believe it.
It is time to do something with the engine! Something must have happened to the thermostat or there are some other theories as well, but suffice it to say I need to change my planning strategy. I don't have the time to do the head myself again, and I was told that I will need a new radiator as well another number of other things to get it running again. Right about $3000. Tears right now. I have wanted to go down this engine route but not right now!
I have a H55 with a split transfer case and I was thinking that I would use the ranger spitter to attach to
Options to start saving for-
V8 --- What size, by whom, and what extras are needed?
A diesel--- Seems like many are using cummings 4bts with turbos
3fe- I would imagine that there would be alot of similar parts
I don't have any skills in a conversion like this and it definitely seems like it is a lot more complicated the a power steering system.
If anyone has some thing to say about what direction I should take, I am alllllll eaaarrrrssss!

Any of the options, you listed are good ones, but you are going to have to ask yourself alot of questions as to what you need.
I can't speak on the 3FE, but the other two are big dollar conversions, unless you have an old small block out back.
It's a major commitment on your part and working alone, will take along time, something family members don't understand too well.
Another option is to locate a 2F takeout and stick it in, for now. Then in your time frame, get all your conversion ducks in a row and do it up big.
I've read and can verify a Vortec swap will cost well over 6 grand, by the time it's all done. Problems tend to grow as you start replacing things.
Hope any of this helps or at least makes sence.
