Suggestion: you could put a piece of dark plexi between the frame and aluminum (outside) and it would blend the look in with your other windows. .02 cents

Question: Are you going to add a locking feature to the door. I do not know about Bellingham but down around here people will see that as an invitation.

That's a good point on loss of vision. I probably would have done this on the drivers side for a couple of reasons. You don't look out the drivers sided when changing lanes and you would only be 2 steps from a frosty on the trail instead of 6.

yeah because those rear windows are shattering left and right!

I vote gloss black or a black lexan cover so it looks like glass.

yes the grey 70- it is cool for ideas. Maybe mount some mini shelves or straps on the inside of your flip-out panel- so when it's open, you have quick acess- like a paper towel rack, recovery strap, etc... or common camp stuff that is lightweight.

I like the idea. But is that thing going to keep shut on washboard roads. With vibration, I fear that tons of dust will enter the cruiser through that latch door.

Having a dark piece of lexan will make it look a ton better...

The whole thing will be painted black, from 15 feet away you wont really know its aluminum anyways, second there will be things mounted to it from both the out side (shovel, axe ect..) and inside ( fire extinguisher, straps, ect.) Yes there will be a locking mechanism. As for loss of visability go out and sit in your truck, theres almost no visability lost, those windows dont help you on the trail either, thats why mine are covered with stickers. As for on the trail dust wont be an issue as im re using the factory seal.

As for still using glass as many know these windows dont have a problem of breaking but they do have a cronic problem of being broken into, If you search on here youll see that many many times people have had there 80 broken into is through these windows. this also keeps thevies from seeing what in the back of your truck (the delux cargo cover if you will)

I created an anti-theft mechanism of putting my trucks rear end a good 6 foot off the ground...that way the lil buggers can't reach.

Oh, and my truck is so big and ugly everyone looks at it so no one has a chance to mess with it without someone seeing.

I will withhold all further judgement until I see a more complete picture...some of the ideas in your last post make it sound more interesting...

Mounting shovels, etc on the outside is a bad idea btw...good way to remove your hard work in short order on narrow trails

ok, so i answered my own question on if you were going to do this to both sides. but here's another. can you lock the latches?

got the lock installed and everything mounted, doors in the painting stage now. Support shocks need to measured and mounted

The latches i got from a boating recycling store. they were brand new but it was opend so they were 5 bucks a pop, turns out they are stainless and go for about $50 peace new. they dont have built in locks so i got a 5 doller turn lock and installed that in the middle so its locked. the color will be gloss black will see how it looks after that worse comes to worse ill install a cover sheet of lexan over the aluminum so from the outside it will appear as though its limo tint.

maybe ill save some more time and buy the fake sun roof and fit that

Ill have to price some lexan (thin as i can get it) i got the support shocks mounted up and works great

painted gloss black shocks mounted and tested, lock and lactches mounted and tested. need to do a bit mor trimming on the gasket and clean up the brackets a bit but all in all its comming together, ended up doing no welding and only used a 4 1/2 grinder, drill, screw driver so its not a hard mod to do. while looking at it i think i might make a hang table for the spot now what rides in the truck. open the door, and the table will hook over the body. (more ideas)
