I can definitely feel the difference in ride quality, but as far as mileage, not sure yet. Since these are a wee bit larger I have to readjust my calculations.
These new tires are 12.8% larger than stock so when I'm doing 55 MPH, my real speed is 62 MPH.
I was used to running an even 10% factor for my speed, now it's a little more difficult. I may even print out a small chart for standard speeds, e.g. 50, 55, 65, 70 MPH's and keep it on my dash.:hmm:
OOOOOOOOOR you could use GPS speed on your phone. ;)

Ha-ha! I usually have Pandora on and I like to see the screen so I can Thumbs up/down. But I'll probably be using the GPS for a while till I get an idea of my speeds.

Gotcha. Does garmin or other gps device show speed?

Since the introduction of GPS on phones and the apps just keep getting better, I have one question: Garmin? Garmin, who??? Does anyone use Garmin any longer for highway travel?
Although I'm really lusting after the Garmin Instinct Solar Tactical:

Had to do a long weekend trip to San Francisco with the family for a memorial. On the way home we took our time and came down Highway 1.
One of the few places my GX can't get me to! Alcatraz.

Is that last pic in Big Sur? Looks like a place I visited quite a few years ago.
Yep, it was a little lodge called Glen Oaks, just off Highway 1.

Over the 4 day weekend we just had, I ripped out the fender liners and pounded down the pinch weld along with some of the interior fender wall and still getting a wee bit of rubbing at lock-to-lock.
I think it's two issues, one is I have to get a heavier sledge and pound a little harder where the body mount is and two, I may need spacers. Not much, maybe 0.5" at the most. But what I believe the main problem is, they're just a lot wider than my 285/75R17's.
If these tires cause me problems on the trail, I may be putting them up for sale whenever my previous size becomes available again. That's the only reason I went this large was that my last size tires just were not available anywhere in the U.S. :(

What offset are your wheels?

Im rubbing at full lock-to-lock as well but know where the issues are. Work on maximizing caster and trim as needed. I also need to remove some more plastic and grind down a little more on the BMC.

I too thought about a 285/75r17 but my buddy just got them installed on his Tacoma and it looks way too skinny for me. I like the wide floatation look haha. I'll make this things work 🪚

I can’t remember if you have SPC upper control arms?

I'd have to look again, but I believe I have Icon UCA's, since the rest of my suspension is Icon.

For what it's worth, I have the headlight washers on my 2017 GX and the shop installed the SSO washer bottle cover and it all fits and offers the protection I was looking for with the Metal Tech front bumper.
Could you please post a picture(s) of this installed? Thanks!

Did a simple project this weekend.
But first, a brief synopsis of what I wanted, what was available and what I come up with.
What I wanted: I wanted an awning that was NOT relegated to whatever side of the vehicle I had it mounted on. Hence, if one mounts the awning on the passenger side, one is committed to orient the vehicle to either the the available parking space or the direction of the sun. Too many restrictions. I wanted it capable of attaching to ANY side of my rig OR be free standing.
What was available: A lot of awnings available from just under $300.00 to whatever your credit card limit is. Yes there is the Batwing by Rhino and some other knock-offs but still, the awning will only be on one side of the vehicle, and albeit will cover the rear. What does one do as the sun moves through the sky? Yea, you could move your vehicle, but a headache. Not really what I wanted.
Solution: I call it the "Awnbrella" An awning AND umbrella together! This Awnbrella can attach to any side of the vehicle needed. It is very sturdy from wind! I can ALSO have it free standing if I'm not by my vehicle for shade anywhere!!

definitely going to copy this. Thanks for sharing the details. No more worries about escaping the sun in Joshua Tree or KOFA!

It really does work well and easy to set up! The only thing, and it's pretty minor, is I'd like to fit it in a small PVC pipe.
I think the only way to do that may be to remove the crank handle to reduce the radial profile for a small PVC.
That would be for no other purpose other than just reducing the profile on the rig. Not really a big deal. I've had it like this for a while now and it really doesn't bother me, most of the time...

Okay, this post is for no other purpose than being narcissistic and self indulging.
This post represents my 3,000th post on IH8MUD!! Especially considering that most of my posts are non-sensible dribble, just taking up space on the forum... :p
Yippee to me...
Ha-ha-ha! I've already just burned through another 1,000 posts!
I didn't realize was so yappy!!

Again, while the wife is at work, the mouse will play!
Yesterday I went into some other local mountains (Idylwilde, Riverside County) to look for some dispersed campsite locations off the beaten trail.
Still had a wee bit of snow along the trails. Below are some gratuitous pictures of my adventure.

The first picture is to hopefully end all discussion about how large a diameter tire will work on our GX's without turing your rig into a poser or mall cruiser AND without fender trimming or massive lifts (body or suspension). Note that my tire size is the LT285/75R17 BFG M/T TA KM2 (which I'm sure you all have read in various other posts of mine). They measure out new as 33.9 outside diameter. My tires have over 45,000 miles on them in these photos.

That photo above shows the tire almost completely stuffed into the wheel well with about 1/2" left before rubbing the rear bumper and maybe an inch in the front from the fender.

This is good to know. When we bought our tires last year we were talked into some that are just shy of 33" by the tire shop

265/70R17. 2" lift.

Maybe when we replace them we'll go up bit. I do hate that we're losing height every time we air down.

With my 3" suspension lift, the 285/75R17's are a perfect fit!
The 35's I have now are just a wee too wide and I get some minor rubbing, even with pounding the pinch welds and removing the inner fender liners.
I really want to go back to those BFG A/T 285/75's but they are just not available in the U.S.

I've now read your entire build thread :-).

Good stuff thanks for posting everything! I've bookmarked a few other 470 builds that look worth reading.

my 2022 build out plans: Fridge, Dual battery, OBA, and awnbrella :-)

the not fun but have to do stuff: timing belt and CV boot.

Will probably do all this in the next 3 months or so. Then enjoy for the next year and probably do rear tire in 2023.

I'm torn on under armor. Don't have any now. I keep thinking to myself, "how necessary is it really?". If we hit a rock does it *really* protect the part??
