top does look great on it. NatickDave was the PO so he could say where the top came from. It's very clean with no rips.

John,

The only way I can put it is that it pops! The color really makes the truck just jump into the foreground. Hood ornament looks fantastic, I hadn't seen that yet, along with all that shiny new hood hardware.

So, for those who are keeping track: It is a '72 factory softtop (FJ40L) sporting early marker lights on the fenders (new oem from toyota), hard doors off a 74 (I think) and an excellent condition old split hood that I got with my 45lwb project parts collection. It is running on 60 chrome wheels (don't forget me when the time comes to sell those John) and Old Man Emu suspension. The front bumper is LobsterFab, rear and sliders are homemade ('cuz ho's gotta slide, too!) Otherwise, very stock.

The top is one of the last from Specialty Top Company, which bought the dies from Kayline, then was bought by somebody else (SOR?) and is now defunct. They really are great. I chose that color because it was very close to the original fabric on the doors, which was all torn up of course. John, I might propose a straight swap for the brand new Paki top in grey based on how each look on our trucks. At least consider it for now...grey on orange and tan on olive just seems better than the reverse.

John,

Looks outstanding! Very creative solution doing the roller backed up with wet sanding, nice.

Both of my trucks are Toyota Orange as well.

Nice work!

That FJ Cruiser looks awesome in that color. Very nice. Your paint looks more reddish than mine but could be cuz mine is under flourescent lighting. Might look different in the sun. Guess I'll find that out in April!

Excellent work with the roller!!! Love the old colors. Your thread was the confidence builder I needed to start mine..

Yours has already been talked about at length for the great color choice. That came out great! I'm gonna step up and spray next time to try it out.

do i spot some "over-roll"? :hillbilly:

That's custom over-roll! :flipoff2:

I taped it off but I think the tape got loose when I wet-sanded. Trying to figger out how to get the paint off the powder coating but I'll prolly end up spraying it with black rustoleum.

You have to be unbelieveably patient and careful, or it will run on you in a heartbeat!

It was the tape that got wet and lifted up a bit. It was too late by the time I noticed so I kept going. Gonna do rustoleum satin black over the bumpers and also the underside just for fun.

Picking up gray painted OEM steel wheels with hubcaps for both the 40 and the trailer.

Looks very nice indeed!

I've found that when I use rollers, they work great the next day if I place them in a MT Pringles can....and then in the fridge!

You'd be amazed how well they hold up.....for weeks even!

Powder coating? Hah, that's a good one.
You are looking at black rustoleum already...fixable in seconds.

Got the tire carrier back on and painted the valve cover and dipstick t match everything. came out nice. Ordered new Toyota hubcaps that should arrive this week. I'll snap pics of the engine and the whole truck next weekend!

got the hubcaps yesterday and popped them on. Looks mother-flippin amazing!

pics coming I swear

FInal pics....or are they

FInally got 10 minutes to snap some pics with the new wheels. Dumped the ghetto 60 wheels and got some 40 rims and some caps.

also painted the valve cover and the dipstick.

I'll take a few more pics once the doors are painted and the M101 has new tires and a spring over. should be a few months
