Ya, he will burn in the brackets and they will bend and nothing will fit.

You're gonna laugh but there ain't no more. What you see is what there is! The downside is that this design is severely lacking in proper gusseting and bracing of the wings but the main cradle is made out of 1/4" thick steel so it's rather beefy, to say the least. I'll re-design it to my specs this week then it's going back on the rig.

After the bumper is on the front, the front suspension comes totally apart and gets reconfigured for the extra weight with SPC UCAs+700# King springs. That reminds me, I need a winch :bang:

After the front is buttoned up, then I make a rear bumper and that one should go easier, I'm hoping.

I have seen the way Ali works. I have no doubt that the bumper fits. I bet he he's even lost sleep thinking about it. He don"t mess around.

I hate designing. I hate doing drawings. Thinking makes my head hurt If I am just building something for myself I just start cutting and it happens. I don't mind if my own stuff is a little lopsided.

Can you install the winch after the bumper is installed?

oh hell yea, that's why I opted for the "open top" bumper. I can stuff a 50# potato sack in there now

I need to buy some gas to set it up instead of flux. Any recommendations?

I live on the other side of the planet from you but come over during the eves of this week and you can learn from this project.

Try to find a used bottle that still has a good certification. They aren't cheap to buy. I traded an oxygen bottle for my mixed gas bottle. You will love the difference. Less spatter and not as much smoke. Can't weld outside on a windy day or have a fan keeping you cool though.

I'll see if I can make it.

I'll keep an eye out. Thanks.

Maybe. An AC/DC Lincoln will teach you how to weld. It will make running a mig so much easier. You can also weld different materials just by changing rod. It really isn't hard. Mig is a lot easier and your shop will be a lot cleaner.

I like welding with a stick welder a lot better. Mig is boring.

Gotta go with Virgil on this one . A crackerbox AC/DC Lincoln welder and an oxy/acetylene rig and you can do anything! Mig is for wimps who just want it easy instead of learning the craft of welding. I was never a professional, but you can be a competent stick welder in a couple of hours, and pretty good in a week of welding in the evenings. And as Virgil said, you have a broader range of materials and thicknesses that you can work with.

These wimps are 98% of the population these days who are hooked on the internet for all things. :) They learn from YouTube videos and learning a craft isn't their deal.

Not much new, at least visually. Worked on some internal bracing of the wings. Ran out of material for a complete boxing in of the face 😡

Looking good! What material do you need? Are you going to paint it or powder coat it?

Stick's not hard, especially with AC/DC, but AC/DC is not entry level pricing. MIG was easier and prettier for me, though, plus I could weld sheetmetal (sorta). I'll admit I stopped using my AC stick welder when I got my MIG.

I am always looking for deals on Craigslist. I run across AC/DC machines from $200-300 pretty often.

I agree mig is easier. I don't use my stick welder or tig (I don't like tig welding) as often as I do the mig just because the mig is stupid simple and less clean up. Mig is like running a caulking gun in the dark using a dim flashlight.

Any breeze or if I have to weld outside it is a stick welder.

I'm using 14g for the bracing and boxing. I've got plenty of 10g (1/8") but that's too much for this application.

I've never ridden Angel Fire. Someday I need to try DH.
5 days solo travel, biked in Cortez and Fruita (Horsethief Loop pic). Albuquerque temps. Still beautiful, but I missed the aspen peak on Uncompaghre Plateau (2nd pic) and Grand Mesa (3rd pic); those would be breathtaking fall trips. 19 degrees Monday morning at Stunner CG (near Kerr Lake).

Started on my cylinder head removal on my 80! Gonna have valve job done. Valve stem seals are leaking. With 225k miles probably not a bad idea to do head gasket anyway. Also replacing the engine harness as mine was damaged near the EGR valve.

I will be following this, as this is coming up on my radar as well.
