I tried using the stock air cleaner on my 6 liter LQ4 and it started throwing lean codes at highway speeds. I switched over to a cone filter and the problem disappeared.

Made me rethink using the stock can on my 5.3 build, and am going to switch over when I have time. Here’s a good thread on air intakes
The stock setup looks need and tidy, and it works ok on my 5.3, but these 6.0/6.2 liter engines really need something better. JMHO
Thanks! Ya I have the cone setup still.

Here is a question for the class. My oil guage is pinning to H when I key on (no start). I currently have one white wire running to the sender. I don’t remember there ever being 2 wires to it but I’ve been wrong before. The EWD SHOWS 2 WIRES. White and one brown that traces to ground. Am I missing a ground from the copper “pin” on the center of the sender? View attachment 3614447
Did you get your oil pressure gauge figured out? Mine was a bad sender. Nice build!👍

Exhaust week! If you’re in the DFW area check out Ryan Muffler in Lewisville. Great guy and very knowledgeable.

Maybe you can use something like this. Used in desert racing. Many sizes/configs avail

Oh cool nice find! You can build a whole intake off of that one page!

So for those pricing all this stuff out.
Exhaust- $2400- (shop labor and parts minus the headers)
Ouch. But, for that money here is what I’m getting:
Started with Speed Engineering headers with V band connectors. From there he’s going down both sides of the trans to a pair of high flow cats. Then to another set of V band connectors. Then, from the driver side over the transfercase to a 2 into 1 magnaflow 14in 12198 then 3in single out the back.

The double V bed setup will allow me to remove the exhaust on both sides of the trans to access service ports and the shifters.

I should have it back this week and I’ll post some pics!

I’ve be very patient with this build. Waiting on parts, getting the wrong parts and having to reorder and wait some more. But, now that’s its at the exhaust shop and almost done I CANT WAIT. It’s killing me
I'm excited for you! And to get mine done. You are the roadmap!

Problem is that it wouldn't last one water crossing...

Ya for sur

I think you missed my point. I’m not suggesting that you use a K&N style filter, just that the stock air cleaner is inadequate for these big V8 swaps. Lots of other options depending on your needs.

The filter and the box are fine the problem is the intake side of the airbox. Can run 4 inch all the way from the engine to the top of the box by modifying the lid. Then modify the intake to the box to be bigger. Customer of mine has been going strong for 6 years zero issues drives his 60 daily with lq9.

That’s my plan right now is to try and “open up” the air box inlets but still appear factory
