Took the long way home from lunch via the National Forest. Great day for a cruise, although it got sketchy in a few places.

Lucky you , wish i could live in Colorado, perfect place for a 40
I have to agree, it is a great place for a 40. The outdoor opportunities are hard to beat. The trail pictured above is maybe a mile from my house.

Truck looks great…..Idaho is not so lucky for snow yet this year, I’m quite jealous
Thanks. We are pretty far behind on snow here too. It'll get here sooner or later.

Right now, it's just in the north facing areas in the shade. Melting pretty fast though. Highs in the 50s this week and next.

Those swampers look so nice on that 40. I had TSL swampers on for a hot minute back in the day on my 55.

Every cold morning, brrrr Brrr Brrrr Brrrr brrrrr until they warmed up, then they sounded like a helicopter 😂
100%. I love the sound they make on the road.

I was running through some mud yesterday and those huge lugs "buzz" right through it.

I've been looking to improve storage in the 40 before the 2026 trips begin, so I found this Roam Adventure Co 83L storage box on Marketplace. Fits great on the roof rack and has a waterproof seal. Also leaves plenty of room for other stuff on the rack.

Some low range solo driving in the National Forest. This trail goes down to Stone Gulch, which is one of my favorite areas. In the summer, there are steep ravines that spill onto a deep creek, lush meadows and heavy green grass. Lots of moose in the area too.

Got about a mile in and started spinning tires and sliding sideways on the north facing slopes. Didn't feel like making the afternoon a solo winch fest, so I eventually came to my senses and turned around.

Shout out to @Andrew S for making these plastic guides for where the hand throttle cable attaches to the upper portion of the pedal. Mine had probably broken off 30 years ago on whatever rig it was on back then. Nice work!

Pikachu got some attention today. Wheel alignment and new steering stabilizer.

IMG_0630.webp

Tech question...the old steering stabilizer looks like it almost has tie rod ends on it. The replacement does not. I am assuming that I can just run bolts in lieu of tie rods for the new one? None of the new aftermarket ones seem to have tie rods, even OME.

It should have come with tapered pins. You can use bolts but it's supposed to be a tapered pin.

Take that $12 one back to Napa. Terrain Tamer has a nice one with built in greasable tapered pins.

Think it would make a notable difference on this old dog? They are sure proud of those things.
