The parts pile grew today and 2 big boxes of OEM stuff left Beno for the weekend.

I've got to get back on it. .....

I hope this is the right @Trollhole carb. It's got an electric plug. Ugh.

This thing is huge.

The patina on this truck is magnificent.

One oddball thing though is this one section that got spray painted green.

I took the Goof Off to it and made it look much better

Really wonder how that went down.

pretty sure bubba was "gonna paint it this cool color" and realized how much spray paint it would have taken after like 1/2 a can....laziness probably saved patina.....

I'm still deciding on that. The rust converter turns rusted metal black. Everything you can't see has been painted with that stuff.

If I put anything on the outside its going to have to be a clear converter. Black spots won't look good.

Penetrol is the only thing I can think of that would go on clear and not screw up the rust color but still preserve it as is. You'd have to smooth thick areas of rust maybe with an abrasive pad and then some really fine wet sanding, effectively thinning it out. Then coat the whole truck.

I sure don't want to sand it. The rust drips and runs are so cool looking. I may spot treat the bare rust spots.

I think Jeff thinks that somehow by me not painting this is a done out of half assedness but that is not the case. I'm trying to preserve what makes this truck unique. That is why I am investing all this money and time into a truck that basically needs everything mechanical replaced.

If I just wanted a 40 I would have been WAY WAY ahead of he game buying one for 10 grand but then I would have a 40 that I didn't build that I never drove.

I also realize that I will have more money I this than it is worth in the end so I have no grand flip plans either.

Don't think that at all. I know what look you are going after. I was just thinking 10 years down the road when that spot is much larger. I see a lot of these hot rod guys shooting clear over rust but that would require you to clear the whole rig I guess.

I saw a pig at ACC that was fairly rusty and they shot the whole thing. While it looked neat and will preserve it I believe @wngrog would be disappointed as it doesn't look necessarily natural from within a 15 foot diameter.

I think he is going for totally original but mechanically sound verse resto-mod....but I may be out of line here....I'll.......shush

I wasn't saying sand it away, just the bare rust spots, as you say. Knock the chunks off and allow the Penetrol to penetrate the rust and stop it. I read about it when I was looking at a ratrod website.

They make satin and flat clear that might get you a finish that might get you a top that wouldn't screw up the Patina.

I was thinking a flat clear might be the best compromise if you do decide to coat it.

Why don't you just mask around the bolt so the converter only makes contact with what you want it to?

Strong progress.
