I used the rustoleum spray rust reformer and it worked well. Turns into a flat black.

That's it's! I had pretty good luck with it back in the day.
Used some myself, just this morning. Permatex-brand aerosol. Used to be made by Duro, and it was called "Extend." Or was that Extenze.....either way, it works........

Man. Putting in a third member when you are old is a bitch.

I can't even fathom doing this in the trail like I used to.

Getting 48 year old RTV off.

Suck.

Getting 3rd up there via my old 48 year old arms.

Double suck.

Getting it in and realizing 2 of the studs are not going to take a nut because Beno is a parts guy not a mechanic.

Triple suck.

Look the "patina" the dirt dobbera have provided

Break a die in half, clamp it on the stud, and back it out; that'll fix that stud right up.

Got the third member in.

Still can't believe that I have done this 10 times on the trail after a broken axle. Fuiiiuuuuuu

Should I clear coat these awesome dobber nests?

Rear axle is done sans break lines. I'm going to start pulling the inside out to get to the tranny hump and get the drivetrain out

Dat ass

@orangefj45 hooking me up on the ancient tail light. Thanks Georg.

I spent an hour last night unbolting stuff for the drivetrain pull and spraying break free on rusty ass bolts.

I hope to pull the motor after July 6th week.

This is the inside of the odd ball thing that was bolted into the firewall. Any clue what it is?

It looks like a rheostat.

Maybe an aftermarket light dimmer?

What was it attached to?

Some kind of an actuator. Not sure what that arm extending from the case might have been connected to though.

Spent some time pulling stuff out prepping to yank this drivetrain.

I finally had to cut/snap/chisel and grind out some bolts. The tranny cover was stuck on there with OEM cement and the captured nuts under the tub mostly just spun.

The hump is in decent. I kind of hate to cut it.

I went ahead and pulled the heater out since it was 90% full of rats nest and dirt dobbers

All I have to do now is remove the 4 drivetrain mount bolts and sawzall the exhaust and I can yank this bitch out.

Any chance that mystery box was part of the winch remote controls?

Hubcap will ship this week.

More engine pull prep tonight. There is a lot to do. I'm glad I was able to sacrifice some stuff. Mainly hoses and just a few rods.

I can't wait to go all Andy on the engine and the engine bay. That will be cool. Lift the hood and it's all super clean and simple.

Dropped the hood to admire the patina
