Always a good idea for the :princess: to get some help from Mary E on the heavy lifting. :flipoff2:

I can't believe the jerry rigged hoist setup you made broke though. I would have never guessed that would happen. :flipoff2:

Just wondering when she is going to loose the shoes....

Bad Ass !!!!!!!!!!! Thats to Cool Brother its Great when you have a hobby you can share LOL I met my wife wendy she was working at her Dad's machine shop I will never forget the day I went to pick her up for lunch " there she was in the back wearing some old trashed overall's with a impact wrench breaking down a small block chevy " It was Love at first sight and that was 29 years ago. Great Pictures

Still cannot believe you got her to lift the 62 trans and t-case in the trailer. That thing was a chunk.

Good to see you have a wife that is willing to help you with your sickness.

What ever you do with this build please make a new center crossmember.

That is awesome Rob, sounds like you found the proverbial "diamond in the ruff"!! I am stoked my wife has been helping me but to have a wife who atcually knows how to wrench would be a whole other level:cheers:

She actually commented how lifting the body wasn't nearly as painful as lifting the tranny/tcase:lol:

I am going to post up some pics of that crossmember when I get to it tonight or tomorrow...... you thought we did a hack job on it last time? It is nothing compared to the person before us

As far as progress last night...... it was minimal at best; I blame the cold rainy/snowy weather. That and I spent the better part of the evening digging out some tools and parts that I still had in storage from the move.

The only real progress I made was to remove the bellhousing, flywheel, and clutch from the old F engine in preperation to bolt up to the 3FE. Also picked up the pilot bearing, rear main, and other little parts I needed to finish up the swap.

Not very exciting at all but tonight I will begin pressure washing the frame to remove 50years off pure Nevada desert dust from between the frame rails; the stuff is compacted like cement. If I finish up with that it will be time to break out the angle grider and wire wheel and start striping!!! I am still on pace to have the frame POR-15 this weekend

Okay....... There is light at the end of the tunnel although it is a very dim light :grinpimp:. I have offically striped the cruiser all the way down to the frame and now with the POR-15ing of the frame have started the long ascent back out of the whole I have created.

It turns out you can spray POR-15 and rather easily at that (Marshall :flipoff2:). My $15 spray gun from HF performed flawlessly and I am very pleased with the overall results. The worst part and most time consuming part of the whole process was removing 50 years worth of gunk and dirt; especially from the frame rails  I probaly could have spent another 8 hours on top of the 8 I already had trying to get the frame perfect...... but I had to remind myself this isn't a true restoration more of an adventure in rust proofing. Thus there are a few imperfections but once the body is on and that first coat of mud hits the underside it will be perfect :D

My plans for the coming week are to repeat the same process on the undersided of the body, but there is going to be a lot more metal work involved with the body to get it ready. Hopefully with any luck I will be PORing the body next weekend. I will post pics and progress as I go. And I also have to pick up my lastest addition another......... 1962 FJ40 in Florence :bounce::bounce2:

I picked up a little present for Project Old Skool on Sat. in the form of a Warn XD9000i which works perfectly and from looking at the hawse fairlead shows signs of only being used once....... how I do love Craigs list!!

enjoy the pics and notice my very safety conscious use of sawhorses and jackstands....... all that is missing are my flip flops :D

Looking good man, althought I'm gonna have to disagree something about the frame perched 4.5' in the air on those stands which are balanced on those sawhorses doesn't really look to safe to me. Maybe its the fact that you're in the picture :flipoff2: but i'm not sure.

you forgot to mention the rather creative cantilever system involving the surveying stakes and spring hanger :grinpimp:

Nice and right now you are my Hero :bounce:Hpoe you dont mind but I had to show this picture to my wife just to prove I am NOT the only one who places Landcruiser's before home improvement :grinpimp: I mean really the house is always going to be there right :hhmm: So how did you end up thinning out the Por ? Ratio ?

Yes, I def. put my home renovations on hold for the Cruiser this time around..... but I had been working on the house for about 6 months straight doing a 500sqft addition bascially by myself. So I deserved a break, plus with spring around the corner I had to get the 40 ready for action :D

As for the thinning the POR I just used their house brand thinner. The instructions didn't give any specific ratios so I used the suggestions I find here on Mud and went with some where between a 1/5 to 1/10 ratio. Honestly I just eye balled it; its not like this is some finicky high end body paint it is POR-15.... just shoot it and it will do the rest. It actually came out with a smooth as glass finish that looked great, but when I applied the UV resistant top coat it lost its shine and has a more orange-peel appearance now. None the less is should serve me well in my attempt to hold future rust at bay, as that was my first priority with aesthetics being an after thought.

Awesome. Awesome. Awesomness.

Looks good JP

Did you do some rewelding on that crossmember. You really should have cut that thing out and replaced it.

I def. rewelded the cross member and cleaned it up the best I could..... but I really don't think there was any need to replace it as obviously has held up that way for decades most likely. That said if I would have had a spare lying around I would have cut out the old buggered up one immediately and replaced it :grinpimp:

Thanks for the compliment and I am shooting for the end of the month for a finish date..... fingers crossed that is.

As long as I can get Marshall to come down for a day and figure out the electical side I will be fine and dandy

Looking good JP. Don't let the boss man catch you on mud during work though. Since its gonna be ready by the end of the month you ought to drive it up in May for the wedding, you can take us to the reception jumpseat style.

If you can convince your then wife to jump in the back of my 40 in her wedding dress I will def. drive the 40 up there:grinpimp:
