Just an update: SAC DMV revoked its CA title, so it's now sold with an AZ title.

Man, that sucks.

Why did it get denied?
Is it because it didn't have the EPA sticker on the door?

That sticker doesn't do anything, you can buy them from SOR and other sellers. It's because CA is cracking down on diesels, specifically imported diesels with no CARB data. Sacramento can revoke a title at any time with an imported diesel.

The rules are pretty clear, but spread throughout a few places between DMV and ARB. There is no general crackdown on imported diesels, but registering one today is challenging since they are now requiring a Federal Certification Label (sticker) under the hood since ~2017.

I started to write a novel but rather than take us further down that tangent, here's an active thread on the topic.

im hearing there IS actually a general crackdown and notices being mailed out and re-registrations being denied by Sacto now.

Yeah. It's happened to three people I know in the last year. All were told the same thing: diesels must go through CARB.

I'm guessing they were all new registrations though. It is particularly annoying that they give you plates and you get a few weeks or maybe months thinking all is well before you get the letter canceling your registration.

As far as I can tell though, it's not affecting previously registered diesels.

the state is cracking down on all diesels. Had a buddy a couple months ago run into issues even with his pre 97 powerstroke he bought out of state because it didnt have the 50 state sticker. Made him go through all sorts of hoops and get paperwork from ford

All JDM imports. They all got their plates but the titles never came. Then a letter from Sac.

Gotcha. Ya I’ve seen a lot of Delicas in CA for sale CHEAP (relative to what they were going for) so I’m guessing people are running into issues and trying to get rid of them. I lucked out and sold mine right before the crack downs for a profit

This SOLD last week. I can't edit the original post...

My mistake, it's still for sale...

Price is now $35k. I can personally vouch for this vehicle. It's amazing. I almost bought it but decided on a Troopy instead.

i wish it was manual and locked, I want reasons to buy it, such a great rig.
