Continuing with the little things… made a bushing for the oem soft doors… the hole was so big that the door was about 3/4 open and when I hit a good bump it would swing open lol

I was running a bungee for the last month so that didn’t happen

Came out decent … it works and is functional

Closes tight

Now if I can only find a lower weather stripping channel for this door…. This was a replacement I made 12? Years ago and it rotted off… the weatherstripping is holding it now

How long ago did you replace the thread coming out of the handle to a screw? Did you drill and tap the handle to except the screw?

@Living in the Past That happened quite awhile ago … one day it snapped off when driving luckily the outer and inner handles stayed put

I drilled it out and taped it… both sides are this way

I think it was the Dside that had broken off long ago and we welded it… but when it was time to recanvas the door I drilled and taped it

You just have to make sure the shaft it a tad longer than the handle so the screw bottoms out on the shaft and not the handle or else it loosens up because of the play in the square holder

If that makes sence

Works well … and to honest I was originally trying to weld on a stud … but looked like s*** and broke off a few days later … so went with plan B

More continuation of the little stuff

New cap and rotor … inside dizzy didn’t look too good so the weights must be rusty … shot a bit of oil in … I’ll have to remove it at some point and take a good look inside

But good news plugs looked great to me

Had a used set that I had in reserve that were blasted and cleaned and regapped ready to go in … these will get cleaned and go on shelf for next tune up

To check the weights freedom, with the rotor on, you should be able to twist the rotor one direction or the other and it should snap back to its original position when released. It shouldn't take much to move it. The resistance is just the springs.

Yeah I checked for movement … when I saw that… not much … wishful thinking the oil will free it up lol

I checked the vac advance and that was working as it should … so it’s not getting full advance as it should

I will most likely get a cheapo electronic dizzy for the time being from AmaDum

A few more little things….

Had to get new rotors as it would not pass inspection… got them opened to 4.175 and new cheapo pads… and replaced all 4 shocks with KYB … the rears were replaced (yellow ones) about 10 years ago (monroe) the fronts totally dead but for good reason they haven’t been replaced in 30 years they were the original Heckathorn shocks when I did the suspension lol

The only issue was the rear upper mount the stud end snapped off … welded a new end on… my welds suck… but when it’s together only I will know lol

keeping up with doing things here and there…. So next up was replacing the Speedo cable that I had on the shelf for 20+ years

My cable had fallen on exhaust and meted away then wore out the section you see … I zip tied it until I could get to it… it was still working …soooo it stayed like that till now lol

Cleaned the cluster in and out

Topped off the tranny (no leak) and transfer (had a leak so it took a bit

Had the top off … in process of replacing all the windows and fixing the wear areas

Windows have cracks and are too far gone to do anymore polishing

Using the singer slant needle as well as the Morse

Added a second layer to the fastener cover as the single layer started to punch through

Trying to get windows back to original spots … basting tape holds in place the new windows in order to sew in

The driver’s side footman loop strap moves a lot in the wind when sides are rolled … wear created holes and around rivets

Added a heavy canvas backing and reinforced the strap area with binding

Day two … quarter windows on rear as well as the Johnny door … in a way the rear door would have been so much easier if it were a normal one piece roll up lol

I do like the split window and being able to roll one side … behind the tire I usually roll and keep the driver’s side down when I have people in truck … keeps the fumes to a minimum

10 years outside 24/7 killed these windows … in 10 years I may make a new and improved top and see about doing hard windows

What is a Johnny door?

Any thoughts to having garage space for it in the next ten years? My hope is within the next ten years is to have my second garage insulated and and air conditioning. This time of year a evaporative cooler doesn't help.

That’s what a buddy from work called it when he first saw the single side back door open … like in “here’s Johnny”

Done enough …
all windows were only single stitched in … at some point I’ll take it off and put a second stitch … and correct minor sew issues

Well after that project is in the dust I think you need to practice a little more with building one for me…..plus I don’t need a Johnny door.
