Hey Johnny,
I am intrigued by your novel method of retaining the soft top in the collapsed position on the windshield. Several questions...
1. Can you see a red light with the top stowed?- I have always had to lean forward to see the overhead traffic light if I'm the first car in line due to the steep windshield angle with any type top on the truck- no problem if topless.
2. Do you remove the side and rear curtains with the windows prior to rolling it up? I would be concerned about scratching the windows by rolling them up like that.
3. You said that you attached the retaining straps to the 4 hardtop mounting bolts on the front surface of the windshield can you show us a better picture of how you did that? How does the strap go around/under the windshield channel to snug down the top?
4. What effect does it have on wind buffeting at speed with the stowed top adding to the windshield height?
Thanks,
Will

@tlc762

For the light ... Just get a traffic light prism my father has one in his model A and works fantastic

I think if your up far enough yes you'd be able to see over ... But... I'm a shortie ... SOOO I have no issue like that :)

Here are some pictures of the straps on the windshield ... If you use nylon there is no issue with water getting into the threads ... I used anti siez as well

Pics of the outside and inside

@tlc762

I flap the curtains on 'top' flat ... Then roll the whole thing up... It doesn't move ... Its not sliding back and forth to scratch anything

Like I said I used to run it this way for YEARS before I went to the heavy canvas... The only scratches really are from the roll bar and trees :)

Yes the strap does go under the windshield channel... And under that I use a hardtop gasket (extra winter protection :) )

@Xtreeman

Well welcome to Mud!

That is a great truck... Do you know of the Yankee toys club... Check out the clubhouse area

I see cape cod... That's where you are?
Splitting time between Saratoga Springs and the Cape right now. Plan to enjoy the 40 at the cape down the road. Learning a great deal on this site. What a resource!

Johnny,
Thanks for the replies, now I see said the blind man. I'm 5'10' so I'm not that tall, any idea where to locate one of those prisms? Thanks for the strap pictures, cause you know how we like pictures...

@tlc762

I am on iPhone so link to google sucks now lol

But... Type "traffic light prism" in Google and you'll see many different styles... My dad has the generic plastic suction cup one that you see places for $5

There are also retro oldie ones that are quite cool as well

One thing I've always wondered about those prism devices - in direct overhead "high noon" sunlight , does it direct that sun light into the cab ?
Sarge

IDK

I am going down to LI to visit with Daddio (Fathers Day guys!!) ... I will have to use this as an excuse to drive the Model A and see :)

Well @Weber Sarge we weren't able to take the A out for a drive... His 28 year old 6v battery wouldn't keep a charge anymore so we didn't take it out

He did say that he never had an issue with overhead sun or sun within the prism ... He did point out that his A does have a quite large visor that over hangs the windshield so maybe that is a contributing factor to never having that type of problem

I may have to get one (because PO manual pg102 says to fill your truck with gadgets and snake oil trinkets) to try out ... I may actually like it :)

Pics (didn't realize until after that the prism is actually off the windshield ... The suction cup unsucked) lol

Thanks for the pics Johnny. I'm definitely going to try that when I get to it. The stitching over the corners of the bows is starting to give a bit so I had either better find someone that can do the work or start looking for a machine soon......

I've been pulling my top without removing the door top header but it's definitely a pain.

Love an old ford. A 32 international harvester fell in my lap once. I pulled onto a friends land on whidbey island Wa. And then moved to Japan not too much later. Still sitting there probably. The old stuff makes a 40 look downright modern.

So busy haven't done anything to the cruiser enjoying some hot sauce ... pseudo camping ... And beach bumming it

Haven't seen a single cruiser... But... Did see this box bronco ... Said just married on the back... So cute :)

Soooo I was taking some time for myself by replacing all the incandescent lights in our church with new LED lighting :meh: ... When I went into one office I had never been in before... this little fella was there ... What a beautiful machine

A 1968? Morse Fotomatic IV 4400 Automatic Zig Zag sewing machine

For those that do not know this is a Toyota Sewing Machine rebadged

Still need to contact the owner to see if it is 'available' to be sold

One of our elders at church is in the Nassau Quilters Guild and might even be hers... There are several singer machines in the room as well

Would love to use this machine ... It's a work of art!

All in all a great day... Took out 8590 watts of light bulbs... And put in its place 722 watts... Several bulbs were mogul socket 300w bulbs

I am soon to be working on a RTT for the Cruiser and David Bradley trailer ... Would be great to compare my Singer 401a to the Morse 4400

Was at a woodie car show a few days ago... I was anilizing the canvas backs to the old A salesman trucks

Today saw this freeborn fj40 ... Pulled in right when they were coming out

Looked 81' to me ... I think that's what he said as well .... he has a 79' working on ... Not a mud member but has been onsite before

Nice chap... Lives next town over in ogunquit

Pics... Should have taken better one of his truck... It's clean!!! :)
