No cabins are not the only option; beach camping is allowed.

I really asked the question just to remind those planning to rent a cabin to reserve sooner rather than later.

Rae and I are interested in joining the fun. Is there a max number of participants and has it been met? She just needs to make sure our dog sitters are available (her parents).

Also, any chance of pushing the ferry out to like 1 or 2PM on Thursday? We'd have to leave early to get there by noon, which is no problem… Unless we run in to the dreaded Wilmington / Myrtle Beach traffic…

Lastly, would anyone have interest in taking the ferry over on Friday and meeting up with the group?

There is no "club max". The maximums set in the hurricane creek trips (and others) are set by the event specific organizer for multiple reasons.

I'd be willing to go in on a cabin with someone. Weather insurance sounds good to me :D

Has anyone reserved a cabin yet?

We got cabin 20 .

Right now head count of 3 in cabin sleeps 6

We as in you, john and sara? Do the cabins allow dogs?

Yes

I am trying to convince the wife that it is ok to bring the baby on this one. If I get the ok I will go in on the cabin. If not then I will plan on sleeping on the beach. It will be a good trial run of all my gear for that kind of situation. I have no idea what my work schedule will be but it shouldn't conflict. What time/day are the CLT people planning on heading that direction?

I think clt people may leave at some point thu morning and spend the night somewhere within an hour of the ferry/marina. If we wanted to stay on PI thu night we'd have to get up way too early to make the drive out, wait for the next ferry run, the ferry ride over (30-45 mins), get checked into the cabins or tent set up all before dark.

Regarding the question of pets on PI and/or in cabins...

Per the National Park Service website:

http://www.nps.gov/calo/planyourvisit/lodging.htm

"Pets in Cabins
Visitors who are renting one of the cabins may keep their pet in the cabin as long as the pet is kept in a crate. Pets may also be kept tied up on the cabin porch provided they are not left unattended."

Per the same website but a different page:

http://www.nps.gov/calo/planyourvisit/camping.htm

"Pets are required to be on leashes at all times."

Okay, so then we won't miss anything if we drive up early Friday morning?

We'll plan to head over to PI on fri morning after staying close by thu night. We'll probably go wheeling around the island after checking into the cabins/setting up tents but I'm sure we'll do that again on sat and sun before heading out so I don't think you'll miss out.

Leucas isn't a crate kind of dog, lol.

Between a wedding two weeks before this event and thanksgiving right after, I can't commit to a cabin, primarily due to Laura not being able to take the whole month off at work (restaurants buzz on the weekends, not during the week). If I'm able to make it, I'll likely come in Moonshine with Leucas and sleep on the beach.

Even a slight wind on the beach side will cause issues with tents and a chill factor. I'm not even going to go into possible N'oreasters... :)

Well I've already proven that Moonshine makes a pretty good barge, so I think I'll be ok

Wife and I have Cabin 17 all paid for. Hopefully the weather is nice, but we're happy to have the cabin as a backup plan! We check in on Friday 11/21 and checkout Sunday 11/23.

As I can't really say if we are going until a few weeks before, Andrea and I (like Johnny) will just sleep it up in the cruiser if we make it on the beach.
