Most of the slackers out here either drink Rainier or PBR. Hamm's is my go to and I've been drinking it for years.

PBR and Rainier are tasty! I think Hamm's may be brewed in Ohio.
probably brewed in a lot of different places that don’t have pines or lofty balsams.

With my neighbors help, we were able to install the Quick Pitch max traxx table. The table was purchased from Nick at Backwoods Overland BACKWOODS OVERLAND – Your Expedition and Overland Adventure Outfitter. Good guy and I like doing business with him.

The table would have been "much" easier to install if it had been done before the inside build. As it is/was, we needed to drill through the birch liner behind the cabinets. The biggest obstacle was making the 6" long bolts that were required. Having written this though the table is really nice. It's sturdy, super easy to set up and take down and provides more space than I'd imagined. In lieu of mounting the maxtrax my thought is to maybe mount the stove underneath. Figure I'll use the stove a LOT more often than the maxtrax which could go on the roof.

Next up is the En-suite shower stall from Quick Pitch and the rear bumper from Kurt Williams.

I've posted a few random shots from this weekend. We drove to Ft. Stevens State Park and camped there Saturday night. Woke up to an Elk herd. Sunday we drove to Oysterville north of Long Beach, WA for a razor clam dig. Dug a bunch of clams, bought some oysters and drank a few beers. It was cold this weekend and it was very nice to be able to hang out in the troopy with the Espar heater.

My neighbor took the moonlight Troopy shot which I thought turned out really well. I'm liking the truck........

Looks great!
Now if only Nick would respond to my email. :D

This weekend I stayed home and did some odds and ends work on the Troopy.

First, I installed the AluCab roof rack. I may end up ordering another cross brace or two. The rack is quite sturdy and isn't going anywhere. My thought is to mount a couple of Alu boxes for parts and maybe out of season clothes. I can imagine that if things get heavy up there that I'd need to replace the air struts with heavier ones. On and on it goes.

Next, I mounted the original French license plate. I'm on the fence about this placement but thought I'd give it a shot. The tough stuff license plate holderhttps://tuffstuff4x4.com/products/tuff-stuff-stainless-roller-fairlead-flip-up-license-plate-bracket-the-tuff-stuff-flip-up-license-plate-bracket/ over the winch does not fully flip up as it hits the ARB bumper. I will likely need to modify it at some point. Not totally excited about any of this at present.

Oh, and notice the ARB to TEQ sticker from Wits End ARB to TEQ Conversion Sticker Wits End is a Mud vendor.

Next up I borrowed a shovel mount idea from fellow Troopy owner Andy. There is a "pipe" in the front of the Troopy that's spot on perfect for holding a full size shovel. Maybe someone can tell me why the pipe is there but maybe it was meant for a shovel??

I drove last weekend without any sort of attachment and after 100 miles or so it came out about 6". To solve that I drilled a hole at the top of the handle and put in a hitch pin. It won't go anywhere now. I will wait for the shovel to be stolen before installing a lock.

If you have a 70 series I think this is a great add.

I've installed the Quick Pitch trax table from Nick at Backwoods Overland Quick Pitch Trax Table – BACKWOODS OVERLAND As mentioned previously, I really like this table. It's very simple to put up and take down and provides a LOT of kitchen workspace.

One thing that I noticed about the table is that it has adjustment holes for the table so that it can be leveled. Only thing is that it has/had a bolt and nut and you couldn't get the nut off to make the adjustment. Really not sure what they were thinking here and it's likely I missed it. To solve this I took out the bolt and nut which was quite difficult with the table already on the truck (first pic) and replaced it with a 3/16" push pin. Seems to work perfectly well and will allow for the table to be easily leveled when needed.

I'm trying to think of reasons this would be a bad idea... and I can't.
The only thing I'd say is that the metal-on-metal contact point of your shovel and ARB might make some banging noises and also cause some wear.

But now I'm thinking that if I don't put a shovel there I may convert it to a nice little air tank...

Really cool idea.

Next, I mounted the original French license plate. I'm on the fence about this placement but thought I'd give it a shot.

What about sticking it up on the front of the Alu-Cab, over the top of the Alu-Cab logo? 3M VHB tape.

I'm pretty sure that it would have to be one really loud banging noise before I'd ever notice it. I'll keep an eye on the ARB wear though. If I see anything developing I'll glue a small piece of black foam to the bumper. I was just really surprised how well the full size shovel fit. It's a Razorback (go hogs!) shovel from Home Depot. And while I'm no connoisseur of fine shovels you could really get some digging done with this one.

Dan I literally laughed when I read your comment 'cause I've thought the exact. same. thing. I'm no poser and I think it would add a certain amount of white trash appeal to the truck. I'll post up a pic when/if I do that mod. A really good idea....amazing how we think alike. Thank you for the affirmation!

A couple of shots from Pacific City, OR last weekend. The Honey Badgers of camping.

To answer your question, it is a frame cross member designed to strengthen the frame and make it more ridged.

Does that rattle? Seems like it would something awful. Also no probs under max suspension compression and the tire?

Do people steal gear off trucks in Oregon these days? I have heard it is pretty bad with theft these days. I grew up in Oregon. Funny but I have been to Panamá and back with a shovel and a lot more on my truck and nobody ever stole a thing.

Cheers

Does anyone know the stock weight of the bj75?

I know it's a while ago this was asked, but I just thought to look in the original Toyota sales brochure (in French!) that came with my 1987 BJ75 Troopy. According to that, the Poids a Vide (unloaded weight) is 2025kg or 4465lbs. So there it is.

That's with a "regular" 3B--not sure how much weight, if any, the 3BII would add to that.

man we really are going to be twinsies, i just ordered the maxtrax and shower last week from those guys. Your interior is way nicer, goose has been hard to get a reply from. I may end up going a different route. Looks great man.

I can't seem to get the quote message thing to work at the moment but I haven't noticed one bit of rattling from the shovel. Thanks for the explanation on the reason for the frame member. It just so happens that it's a perfect fit for the shovel. If the tire were to hit the shovel I think I'd have more to worry about than the shovel or tires. Given that I don't have super large tires there is a LOT of room left for wheel travel.

Theft in Portland Oregon? Yeah, I'd say it's a problem. I had a jerry can on the back of my 62 that was stolen before I could get a lock on it. Not sure if it happened at my house or elsewhere but it damned sure didn't last long. I ordered a lock on Amazon and if it fits everything that I have (alucab tent, hi-lift, etc.) I'm going to order a six pack. Portland......I doubt seriously it's the same nice town it was when you left.
