Loads of trails in the general area .. Look Up ( the wave ) and ( white Pockets ) Could even take a trip Over to ( antelope canyon) .. for moderate to hard trails look up ( Hog canyon ) . the other sides are ( grand Gulch mine ) we are running this on the 14 of oct as a club run ..

It sounds fun. My wife and I have promised several people in the area to come visit "someday". Would make a good multi-purpose vacation.

My have to install aircon first, though....

PS; we should hook up one of these days...I've heard that erehwon is right up the road from f'lost... but I'll be here, now, for the time being...

I've been dnuora the block a few times

Location, location, location???

Traveling circus is a great way to do trail runs and allows for covering much more site seeing territory and new campsites every nite. Some trail pigs like to have a base camp, like PP17, so that it makes it easier to do a long day trip and return to a campsite that's already set up vs. breaking camp each morning and setting up each nite.

Finding a location where a base camp (circle the wagons) can be set up with numerous trails, close by, to choose from that do not require long asphalt treks to get to seems an ideal venue.

Colorado most centrally located, South Dakota sounds awesome and somewhat central, Utah loaded with sites.

I'm a west coaster and not familiar with any of those areas.

Location, location, location??? Ideas, ideas, ideas???

I could be persuaded to attend this one. I like the idea of the badlands/black hills and Acadia NP (family in ME). CO would be cool, but last time I drove to a pig meetup in Colorado, nobody else showed up!

We had a few show up this year!

Alright, I just got a copy of the Qutdoor X4 magazine and it has an article on the Parashant National Monument, it talks of camping right on the edge of the north rim of the Grand Canyon. Is this the area we are talking about for the Pig Party? if so, looks like a great place to explore, camp and have fun. No people is a big plus. 1,200 miles of dirt tracks and no hotels, stores, gas stations, etc. so no people. :) The article is a great resource for us to get started on researching the area.

How close is nearest fuel?

I'm not sure, don't think the article talks of fuel. We might have to haul our own in. I believe FJ55-100 would know more about that type issue, since one entrance is in St. George, Utah.

Here are some North Rim links I've been looking at. One option would be to utilize the Jacob Lake campground, 42 miles from the actual north rim. Three loops of 8-10 group campsites each with advance reservations possible. Cabin and room rentals at reasonable rates right across the road for non campers, along with food service and gift shop. We've stayed in both the rooms and cabins and have enjoyed the in restaurant...all are more than adequate but not 5-star.

Jacob Lake Inn: The Gateway to the North Rim

A day jaunt to the North Rim with a side trip down the Sublime Point trail would be one opportunity if we headquartered at Jacob Lake and we wouldn't be fighting the seasonal rush for campgrounds and other more expensive lodging right at the Rim. (Don't know why this is listed under Zion National Park.)

Point Sublime Trail: Grand Canyon North Rim

As Ron mentioned, there's also the opportunity to visit more remote vistas. This one looks interesting.

Explore: Toroweap Overlook offers stunning vistas, but be prepared

Another entrance to Parashant is via Litchfield AZ...between St. George UT and Mesquite NV.

I"m also hoping Evan will weigh in again, as he has previously, with an outline of trail possibilities. We'd be all in for the North Rim in 2018.

was just there last weekend ,, 300 miles no gas stations , fun , grand gulch mine , savanic mine, cunningham mine.

Other options within fuel range of most of us if we would headquarter at Jacob Lake? Any reasonable overland routes is we wanted an expedition-style event? Weren't some of the Toroweap routes about 60 miles one way?
Better option that Jacob Lake? Having been there, I was just thinking it could accomodate a group like ours with camping and other lodging options and allow quick access to the Rim without the seasonal chaos of being right there.
