It's a 2019 Toyota FJ96 - from New Zealand, but to import it, it couldn't be complete... the bed's held up in customs.

This is an opportunity to educate people on the "Chicken Tax".

WWACCD (What Would ACC Do?)

About 10 years ago, I was in ACC's shop. Dugan - the owner - was doing a de-smog on a 60. But, the engine bay was totally blown apart - radiator out, support out, battery and tray, and 75 parts I couldn't identity. There was a tray of silver parts, a tray of black parts... It looked more like he was half-way through a motor swap. He said every part that came off was degreased, scrubbed, media blasted, then polished or powder coated.

I said "All that for a de-smog?" He held up a sorta greasy, sorta corroded bracket and asked "Would you put that back on like that?" I said "Uhh... no?"

Fast-forward 10 years and every time I pull a part off Patty, I think of Dugan "Would you put that back on like that?" Okay sure, no one's going to see the backside of the speaker grille... but, it's off... and it's dirty, so...

I'm not in a hurry with this truck (clearly), so the additional time spent scrubbing, painting, etc. is just part of the process.

I also extended a habit from my cycling (primary hobby) wrenching - bolts are cleaned and regreased before going back on. Cycling stuff is a little more tolerance-sensitive because of the materials, e.g. aluminum, titanium, carbon, etc. and torque should be set by tension, not friction of the threads. But, it's a habit, and it makes disassembly that much easier later.

I messaged him too, but he’s being elusive. It’s a nice truck for sure! And Ashcroft is a good guess too, (I consider that Kamloops area, but loosely).

Nothing special really... the under hood battery was put on the flat deck then doubled it up with a solenoid. Since then the solenoid failed and ruined the 2nd battery before I figured it out and I've put the starting battery back under the hood. Realistically wasn't an ideal set up... I'll figure something else out for dual batteries when I get there.

Spent a couple hours with Dugan at ACC today (never getting closer than 7' or 8') and planned out "Phase 1" of the tray back (remember - sounds cooler than flatbed). We got the basic design nailed down, made a materials list and ordered the steel.

• The sliders (rectangular box) will integrate into the frame of the bed
• The headache rack (round tube) will follow the basic outline the cab - with a crossbar along the bottom of the window
• The deck will be in line with the body line that runs through the door (and bed if there were a bed)
• The frame will be box steel, deck will be plate steel
• The "sides" (small, triangles between back wheel and cab - will be plate).
• Tail lights will be same/similar to FJ40 - the rectangles, not rounds
• The spare will be mounted behind the driver seat (tying into the headache rack), sunk into the deck - showing about 2/3 of the wheel/tire
• Once built, the frame and sliders will be removed and powder coated as one piece (likely black) and the deck and sides will be powder coated body color.

If you followed all of ^that^, you're probably a fabricator Otherwise... I'll post pics as soon as there are pics

I just received a bunch of new take off pickup beds from 79 series regular and double cab , I am gonna keep 2 of the short ones for me but the rest is available. These are new take offs but being transported a few times there are some dings and dents in them . Some are pristine and complete ...
