"Tipping " sounds like what happens first. This man "dropped" 😅

I don't know if we'd talked about your bump stop breaking before you put Perry's on it. I'm very curious, had you noticed any difference in the material as it aged prior to breaking? Did it get hard or developed stress cracking like an old rubber bushing? What was it that finally led to its demise?
No noticeable differences or wear in the material. I actually have it sitting right here on my desk and it feels just as supple as it did when new.

Something Patrick Perry and I have discussed is the extreme angle of contact on the 100 series front LCAs. These bumpstops were designed to contact straight on so it comes as less of a surprise that they failed IMO. They’re also for an FJ cruiser which is not nearly as well built/heavy stress as a Cruiser/LX

LBJ and spindle day

Apparently I bent the driver’s side spindle at some point. Tomorrow I’ll decide which bearing/hub is better and figure that out

I tore the boot on the 555 LBJ so a replacement was necessary (full of mud/was a little loose).

I’m also prepping the garage for some bigger projects coming up next month…to be continued…

Added a mountain hatch USA tailgate cover to the rear as well as a new tool drawer. Such a huge upgrade.

After replacing my driver’s side spindle (see previous post) I can confirm that I had a bent spindle (oops).

I’m now running SPC upper control arms with the UBJs in “D” position for maximum caster. Cams are adjusted for close-to-max caster as well but corrected camber

Thanks to @FortKnox98 for helping with the alignment. For those who don’t know, he’s working for Cruiser Patch this month. Cheers, Knox 🍻

Downtravel for days!

Also, the Aussies must be onto something with these scrub rails- used them to scrape along a rock face and climb out of a horrible rutt with zero additional body damage (not that it matters anymore)

@BurnsCrew you may want to reconsider adding these so you can tackle that left-hand line on 30 (made it through with no cable pulled)

More photos of the aforementioned climb. I need to get a level gauge in my truck so I can measure some angles...

GSMTR 2024 damage report:
1x 35x12.50r18 yokohama Geolandar MT (first one I've popped since buying them in January of 2023)
1x "party shaft" reinforced 3/16" sleeved rear driveshaft- snapped it like a twig
1x rear driver's door (sorry Alex & Chip)
1x passenger taillight

“Dear God: When I die, please don’t let me come back as Patch’s next vehicle.” - amen. Lol!

Hahahahaha!!! One of my favorite quotes about Patch, “Why does he hate that vehicle so much?!” By Alex. Right after he got tired of waiting for slow ppl and flew over some rocks and into a rock wall. Party on patch. 🎊

The countdown is growing smaller! I’m running out of time 😂

Crossed some big ones off the list today though. I’m swapping my leaky t-case for a non-leaky donor rather than pulling it all apart a week before I have to leave…

I’m replacing my front driveshaft with a spare from a 2003 I picked up in a junkyard a while back. Apparently the 2003-2007 shafts are nicer? 🤷🏻

Also got some doors to fix my dumbassery from GSMTR.

Tomorrow I’ll reboot my LH CV which decided to blow a boot yesterday (better than during the trip)

What's up with the tcase shift motor swap? Looks like old one is missing the motor...?

But you do know your current leaky t-case works properly, correct?? versus…

Oh yeah- both cases work. Just swapping because I ran out of time to rebuild. I’ve also gotta replace a CV boot that just ripped and my inner tie rod which apparently is a little wiggly now

Changed engine oil, dropped in a new fan shroud, sprayed out radiator fins (still running a little hot 200-218 max but about 186 regularly 🤷🏻)

Today and tomorrow I’ll be packing up the last of my camping equipment and hitting the road on Tuesday in the AM. So excited!!!

inquiring minds want to know: overall, how long does it take you to pack for 3+ days?

😂😂😂 I’ll be accompanied by my passenger princess on this one which has increased the prep time considerably. It’s a 16 day trip in total so packing has been sort of an assembly process…also knocked out about three months of maintenance in the last week since we’ll be on the road so much

yes, co-pilots increase the complexity expodentially.

Being off to the right on the age scale, preptime increases dramatically. plus, moving more slowly. as Lowell George would say: "...you know your over the hill when your mind makes a promise that your body can't fill..."

My dear friend, EVERYTHING is nicer on the 03-07s 😋

This will be an excellent test of y'all's relationship! I think your princess is going to do great.

Safe travels tomorrow, man. I'll look forward to seeing you guys next week.
