Post storm assessment…the copper truck was at the end of the tow strap on the ground. So it’s a good thing I moved the truck when I did. That big one on the right would have hit across the hood for sure. no updates on the truck as I’m doing an oil pan, RMS and Knucke job on someone else’s 60

All these branches came down throughout the day

I got to watch some arborists fell the oldest oak tree in Georgia about 13 years ago when it dropped a branch on the roof of the shop and damaged a pristine first gen 4Runner.

Another update. Finished doing a timing belt on an 01tundra with 42k on the odometer for a friend out of San Antonio. You never know, but the original was in great shape. Never worth the risk. Been back on this copper 60 the last few days while I look for my next opportunity to work on someone else’s truck. Welded in the new catalytic converter. Had to harvest flanges from other 60 mufflers I have in the corner of the shop. Also worked on the pesky heater hose. The previous owner really screwed this up and put (or allowed someone) a worm clamp on the connection by the firewall. I’ve had this happen before, but not in such a precarious location. What happened is I backed out the screw but the clamp would not release. Dam thing was a challenge to get off. Anyhow, I removed it and discovered the pipe was rotten. So on to removing a bunch of stuff. Quite frankly I could have pulled the motor in the time it took me to get the shields and pipe off. Also, swapping out the old corroded air rail for a much cleaner version.

I put a worm clamp on my firewall connection too. When I was pulling my engine I realized how big of a mistake that was. Luckily I’ll be able to get to it easily with the engine out. I haven’t looked inside the bay for months as there’s two feet of snow piled on top.

I’m thinking of putting a cat back into my flow. I don’t think deleting it helps any with power and I don’t like smelling like exhaust every time I drive. Maybe that would be the perfect project to learn to weld on?

Don’t think you can go wrong with the Cat. This one is the Magnaflo product. My first 60 had the same smell issue being a cat delete truck

Redid all the vacuum lines with 3 & 5 mm hose. Adjusted the valves (thanks Casey for the refresher) and timing and she falls on her face under 1000 RPMs with > half choke. Adjusted the fuel/air screw 2.5 turns and played with the idle. Lesson learned…spray carb cleaner on the intake while running prior to the hours spent on the above said steps :). Started a 5-speed conversion for a good friend this afternoon so once that’s done I’ll demo the drivers side engine area on this copper truck and most likely go with machining and OEM on the gasket. Have more research to do there.

Crazy weather here in Central TX. Was focused on closing up a T-case and a huge hail storm crept up on us. I definitely need to get rid of some stuff on my barn so I can store this copper cruiser in here. Have a nice spot on the other side of my lift but the floor is covered with a bunch of parts. Squeezes the 60 in and waited for the storm to pass.

Jimmy, maybe rather than get rid of stuff…. You need a bigger barn… 😳
Ha…very true ma man. I just have a hard time spending $ I don’t really have. Coop @samc2447 gave me a great idea on how to extend it out of the backside by about 25’ which would give me an additional 1000 sf. It’s a goal that I hope to reach one day.

Seems like the whole world runs on money that nobody has… still we miracle it together.

If you do this, I'm moving in. Just giving you the heads up now.

Invite is officially extended Jim. Have a 400sf peer and beam one room house in the woods (bed in the loft) that you can home base out of. Of course you’re always welcome to a spare room in my house as well. At one point the cruiser head traffic was high enough that I nick named my place “the cruiser hostel “.

Been a while since I’ve worked on this truck. Dropped the intake/exhaust manifold at the machine shop in April. Picked it up last week. Been doing some major/minor work on my blue 60 and to the point i can take it easy. So started putting all the new gasket and rings on the manifold. Only issue so far is one broken bolt. It’s soaking over night in Kroil and hope to extract it manana.
