I'm getting ready to install an FJ60 carb cooling fan in my '76 FJ40. I was going to keep it simple and operate it manually using a switch on the dash. I'm thinking it would look better to use an OEM or OEM style pull switch instead of a toggle switch. Any ideas?

Thanks for the tip. I was thinking of working in a relay. I know just enough about relays to be dangerous. I've just finished modifying my FJ62 power window and door lock circuits using relays. I installed the door lock wiring and the power window wiring (so far only the front passenger window) in my '86 FJ60 project vehicle - quite an improvement in performance. Thanks again @slcfj62!

FWIW: Here is an option, and you don't have to install a switch....click here > Carb Cooling Fan < ...note, I do have a hidden over-ride cutoff switch.

A few years, and a few thousand miles, still operates as it should. Matter of fact, my wife and I just got out of my rig from our Saturday morning 5K jog at the park. The carb fan was chill'n the Aisan after about a 20 minute drive back home. :hillbilly:

Another option I'll be looking at is a fully functioning system (that my '76 FJ40 never had) using FJ60 parts. I think I've got what I need from the various FJ60s I've parted out over the years. What I don't have I might be able to find used here on MUD. Off to studying the wiring/logic diagrams.

You can use just about any FJ40 dash switch for this. However, I think it's the 1973 fan switch for the heater that has the fan symbol on it that would be perfect for this. It can easily handle the cooling fan current, no relay required.

73 was the only year that the fan switch also had either front or rear on it. 74 and later there was only a single switch and the rear automatically came on with high speed so didn't need two switches. I prefer having the option of running either heater when I what and collected a few sets of 73 switches. They also had the word FAN and not a symbol, that I think started around the 81 model.

I get confused about the different year fan switches. There is probably a thread somewhere that describes them all...:D If not someone who knows the switches intimately should start one... Hint... Hint... Living in the past... :smokin:

Sounds like a good setup-I know if I could not have found all the stuff for my '78 I would have went Ricks route @GA Architect. Incidentally thanks again Rick for all of your help it is sincerely appreciated.

I have a NOS single Pull switch & a unique NOS knob to your project that would be perfect for a carb cooling fan ............

i have the new pin wrench nut too

and yes a toggle switch would look " Ghetto" pep boys style .......:hillbilly:
